Hello,

I'm sure most of us have heard about MAP. I have but didn't want to cut out dairy. I made the decision, based on limited research (cos sometimes I'm too tired to look into too much detail), to use Cravendale milk (in UK) as it has extra filtration. In my mind I thought this was a good idea in relation to MAP.

Now I live in the countryside and I see very happy, healthy cows in the local dairy farm and so I would prefer to get pasteurised semi skimmed milk direct from them.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you use Cravendale or UHT to reduce MAP? Do you go the other way and have raw milk?

I'd like to hear all about it, and i'm secretly hoping there'll be a good case for me buying milk from the farmer.

Thanks

I think you should be more concerned with the lactose content rather then the presence of map, because it's probably already made a home in your intestines. The lactose will easily feed pathogens and contribute to your symptoms though, stick with cheese like mozzerella for a source of calcium and protein. Mozz is probably the cheese with the lowest lactose content. I eat mozzerella and parmesan and take calcium supps.

This is a concept from the specific carbohydrate diet and has helped quite a bit.

I would not worry so much about dairy either, look for lactose-free instead, to my mind. I was vegan for nearly three years (before I was diagnosed) but it did not decrease the symptoms, instead everything got worse.
But it's an interesting question that you raised which relates to the trigger-question, what could have triggered the initial breakout of the symptoms of Crohn's. I remember that I consumed lots of dairy products before I started having symptoms from one day to another as if it was the stomach-flu. But that could have been coincidence or a real stomach-flu which was right before the first manifestation.
