I have a wicked case of costochondritis that just won't go away. The normal treatment for that is NSAIDs but they might as well ask me to chew on crushed glass. My doctor gave me two options:

1. Take a Cox 2 Inhibitor such as Celebrex.

2. Get cortisone shots.

Has anyone taken Cox 2 Inhibitors here? Did they tear up your gut like NSAIDs or did you have any other side effects?

Thank you :)

Googled this old post. Sorry nobody had an answer for you David. I'm also curious about cox 2 for pain relief.

I don’t have personal experience with this as such, just observations.

The older NSAID’s are well known for their GI side effects so when the newer generation NSAID’s (Cox2) were introduced they were touted as being free of GI side effects. Unfortunately reality didn’t match the hype. Whilst I do think that the Cox2 NSAID’s are far friendlier for many users the risks also remain for more than few users and I have seen many a time the old GI issues be just as problematic with the Cox2 as the old NSAID’s are.

I would not take them on a regular long term basis but would probably accept that short term and very occasional use may be passable. Certainly a thing to discuss with GI.
