:grumpy: OMG!!!! I have to vent this out... Adian which is my youngest grandson (9 months old) which is Kelley's youngest baby has been running a fever for two days of 101.8-103 yesterday, so we took him to the doctors for them to say he is fine probably just a viral thing. One doctor says to give motrin for fever the other in same office says not to give him anything for fever and let it go to get viral out of his system... OMG so we come home give him motrin on top of tylenol now remind you his fever was 103 at there office. So at 2am this morning his fever was 105.4 so we took him to the ER for them to say are you ready::::
His lungs, throat and ears are fine so it is viral. gave him tylenol. Nurse came in with tylenol and amoxacillian and says the doctor said it is possible it is viral or possible inflamation of his airway. that he heard inflamation in airway, but never told us this. Okay so we get home, read the paper and it says possible "Pharyngitis" we looked this up and it is a sore throat possible strep.
Inflamation of airway is asthma not Pharyngitis...

WTF!!!! I swear the doctor in this awful state got there license from CRACKER JACK BOXES, They were the gifts in the box with the popcorn!!!!

Sorry I had to VENT before I exploded. Of course maddie has been up three times tonight, she is not having a good night either.....

the old saying is "GOD don't give you more then you can handle, however I wish he did not trust me so much" Our plate is over loaded !!!!! Not hungry no more.... lol

First of all {{{{HUGS}}}.

The only doctors I hate more than the GIs are the pediatricians. I still have not found ONE to be able to make a proper diagnosis. When my oldest (now 10 y.o.) had a rash on the foot the ped said that it was
Food allergy
scratch
plant allergy
nothing
Just put some moisturizer

Finally after 6 MONTHS of moisturizer we saw a dermatologist who gave us some cortizol cream and the kid was fine in two days.

All the best for Adian and take care

firstly, sorry to hear the baby's so poorly - i really hope this virus runs its' course soon and he starts to bounce back in the next day or so.

i have to say - the doctors remark about giving nothing for the temperature made my own blood boil!!! a high temperature in a young child is one of the scariest things, and personally i always have and always will do everything safely possible to bring a child's temp down, no matter what the cause of it is. temps of 103 & upwards in little ones can bring on febrile convulsions - it sounds absolute stupidity on the doctor's part to just wave this quite possible scenario into insignificance & advise not to bring the temp down. sounds like an old wives tale - let the temp rise and the illness will go quicker. what a quack!!!!!

the only time i'd agree with not giving all the meds you safely can to a child, in an attempt to bring a temp down, would be if there were contraindications in the child for those particular meds. otherwise - give them, sponge him down, put a fan in his room, and do what you can to cool him.

my daughter has always had spiking temperatures with every single illness she's had... more than once we've been admitted to hospital with temps over 104 that i couldn't bring down, once they thought it was meningitis & gave her a lumbar puncture. but every single time, the staff agreed that tackling the temp was the first concern.

only two weeks ago she had tonsilitis, and despite her crying that she was cold, i put the fan on her, stripped her down to a vest and pants, and put a cold flannel on her head, gave her paracetamol and brufen - her temp was over 104.

sorry for the rant - but high temps and young children are not a combination to be ignored.

Wow. I hope all of you can get some rest after that ordeal. I wonder what those docs would have said/done if that was their child with a 105 fever? Feel better.

well.....it is 6:03am and we have had no sleep.....we as in me and mom....good ol' dad as useful as he is stayed up till 330 playing computer game then said he was tired and off to bed he went. his temp is finally lowered to 102.5. hoping for it to go lower but doubt it. but if it gets higher i will be in ER and pediatricians again they will eventually get tired of listening to me...each time i have to go they will deffinatly like me less.

Adian is still running temp of 103 right now, if still running it through out the night then they are ordering blood work tomorrow. it looks like it will be another long long night....

Awww, I'm so sorry. Fevers at that age are nothing to take lightly and especially that high of a fever. To do nothing? Really? At that age they need comfort and anything that will at least reduce their symptoms will help them sleep and they need rest for their little bodies. I hope the fever continues to go down but I really wish that you could have gotten some better help. Poor little baby. That makes me so mad. Crackerjack doctors indeed!
