this might be a typical silly question from a newly diagnosed crohns sufferer but does anyone have any ideas or tips on how to ease cramping in the lower abdomen???

Also can anyone recommend any good crohns websites to give me a bit of guidance to help to kickstart a plan of action?

One more thing while im on a roll and boring everyone to tears has anyone tried juicing as a way of dieting for a certain period of time to help calm their symptoms?

My Doctor prescribed Mebeverine, which helped when I was getting crampy pains. Sorry can't help on the juicing though.

Thanks Bid once again you've come through for me. Can Mebeverine be taken with all crohns related meds do you know?

Hey Hun

Yes Mebeverine is just something that acts on the smooth muscles in the gut stopping them from cramping .
I also have buscopan which is pretty much the same .

In hospital they gave me it iv with paracetamol an then tramadol an then morphine lol
An I was on pred and pentasa aswell .
I still get them on my script sometimes but I find they're not very effective for me , bit yes they can be taken with all crohns meds from my experience .
Just remembered when u get it iv it makes your eyes go funny lol

@ Danniboy...I'll te;ll u a great natural ayurvedic solution for your juicing. Try it and see the difference...I dont know what this fruit is called in English, but I guess its stone apple..in Hindi we call it..Bel.

I'm putting up an image of this.

Just take the pulp and dry it and make a powder of it...you can use it whenevr it starts juicing..it will stop...I dont know the immediate effct if raw pulp is taken...but in any form its free of any side effect...others can also try this...its also quite refreshing and very cool for your stomach if you make juice out of it and drink. TC

Hope this helps.

never seen that fruit before. I guess you might be able to get it in london though (up here in my little town there no chance).

I use juicing to get my vitamins etc I guess you could use it for a while instead of food but it will be pretty hard to get the amount of calories needed per day.

Veg juices will be best for long term as fruit juices are normally high in sugar (so try limit it to 1 every day). There are some juicing recipes in the food forum here (or search for juicing / smoothies)

For the cramping i normally drink peppermint tea, although ive heard caromile and ginger are also good for the gut

For cramping I take Bentyl or Hycosamine. You can also try a warm compress on the abdomen, too. I also like peppermint tea for cramps-especially hot, the warmth makes it more soothing to my tummy.

I would recommend trying the first line medications-Pentasa, maybe Prednisone, or Canasa and Rowasa, depending on where your disease is flaring in the bowel. Take them on a schedule regularly every day and they will help you in the long-term avoid alot of unnecessary problems.

If I could go back to my younger self I would say DO NOT stay on steroids for extended periods of time. If they can't control it with pred, it's time to think about biologicals.

As for juicing, I like to use pinapples, apples and celery, which are excellent for inflammation. Try small amounts at first, increase as you go.

I would say this site is a good place to get a game plan-lots of info on both medications and natural ways of helping Crohn's. A huge plus is you can ask questions and get advice from people who have tried it. There's also threads on books, etc that are helpful too.

There's lots of good info on juicing in the forums, as well as vitamin and supplement advice.
Our man David is the go-to guy for vitamin deficiencies and the special dietary needs of Crohn's patients; he super nice and has helped me alot.

I hope this helps you out and gives you a place to start. Best wishes on whatever treatments you choose, and we are all happy to help in any way we can!

I've never tried juicing but not b coz I don't want to I'd love to ! It's because I have constant diarrhoea and so anything fruity or caffeinated makes me alot worse .
But if it's good for you go ahead an try it , its super healthy an I wish I could bloody do it lol
