Is it a flare!?!

I woke up around 3 am with diarrhea and it hasn't gone away. In fact, the gatorade is making for some colorful liquid butt juice (gross!) Not too often you see bright orange!

It's hard to know the difference between normal and a flare. Any ideas on how to tell the difference???

That's a question I've frequently asked myself. Is it a flare? Is it just IBS? Is it something I ate? Did I catch something? It's really hard to tell. Since everyone's symptoms are a bit different it's hard to say what is a flare and what isn't.

A GI nurse once told me that if I was waking up in the night to go to the bathroom that it wasn't IBS. I don't know how accurate that is, but it seems to have been usually true for me. If I wake up in the night with D a lot, it's usually a flare, or something I ate that really disagreed with me.

Another sign for me is the different pains I get. When I'm flaring my joint pain is worse, and I get more Crohn's related gut pain. But sometimes my joints ache a lot, or I'll have bad stomach pains when I don't have a flare either, so it's hard to say!

Some people get a bit feverish during a flare.

Anyway, hope you're feeling better soon.

Before Humira, I never could tell the difference between flare and non-flare episodes. A consistent fever would be a definite cause of concern though.

I am currently getting up with D at night but it's all surgery related. I wish you feel better soon!
