Hello All,

I have been on Humira now for about 6 weeks.

After the loading doses I noticed I had no immediate side effects (minus a small headache)

Consistently now though, it seems (literally every time) EXACTLY 1 week after my injections I awake to some joint with this same exact achy/sore pain. I can't explain the feeling but it HURTS! And is something totally new and unusual for me. Last time it was my hip/lower back and right knee.

This morning, however (again exactly 1 week after my last injection), I woke up out of a dead sleep @ 6am with THE WORST pain I have ever felt in BOTH of my knees!!!! I got up to go to the bathroom and my knees nearly buckled underneath me, I can't explain the pain. I was in tears. It was the same pain I have been experiencing, only this time it was much more intense. It was just so bizarre. I took 2 Aleve and a Norco for the pain to go away because it hurt even while laying or sitting.

I'm hoping once the pain meds wear off this afternoon that the joint pain won't come back... and it usually doesn't- which I find so puzzling.

But has anyone else experienced this? It's so bizarre because the joint pain is always A) Exactly 1 week following my injections and B) usually wakes me up in the morning but goes away after I take something for it or get up and go about my day, and doesn't bother me again until a week after my next injection

I will definitely bring this up to my Doctor- But do you all think this is something that will progress into something worse? Or something to be pretty concerned about? It's just so weird!

Thanks in advance for all replies!

I haven't started Humira yet, but I am starting next week. That's crazy that it happens right on schedule like that! Hopefully your dr can provide some answers for you.

Thanks! I wish you luck on Humira and hope it works for you!!

And yeah, my knees still bothered me a little yesterday even though I was taking stuff for pain all day... and I woke up again with the knee pain this morning but it wasn't quite as bad as yesterday.

Still so weird though- no one else has had this or something similar happen to them??!

When I was on humira a day or two after having the injection my ankles would swell up and be stiff the nurse told me it was a reaction to the humira but I don't remember the pain being as bad as you describe.
I would definatley speak to your GI and if it continues maybe see about going to a rheumatologist as you can get arthritis as an EIM of Crohn's disease, I have been diagnosed with this and I am not able to walk when it's bad.
Hope you find some answer soon x

i have also been having joint pain lately.it feels like a strong ache that wont go away.i have been on remicade since April 2012 and i go every 8 weeks.and i started going every 6 weeks a few months ago.i also take 6MP and pentasa.last night i went to the gym.i didn't do any running or leg exercises, just upper body.and last night both my hips hurt and both my knees.my legs felt very heavy and i had to put a lot of effort to walk.i never even thought that my meds could be doing this.i guess i will bring this up in my next doctor appointment in a few weeks.

I have the same prob to. But, my knees were hurting before and I had xrays that showed fluid in them. So the dr said to take the pred .. Know am of and I notice more pain with the humira and noooooo energy..

Hi! Is it ok to take Aleve with Crohn's? My dr told me to never take it our Advil. It will tear up yr stomach?

Aleve is just as bad as Advil for someone with Crohn's. They are NSAIDS and I have been told NSAIDS are not to be taking.

There is a Lupus type reaction to anti-tnf meds. My doctor a few years ago warned me about it. He said it usually occurs days after taking the meds. Here's what is posted on Humira's website:

Immune reactions including a lupus-like syndrome. Symptoms include chest discomfort or pain that does not go away, shortness of breath, joint pain, or rash on your cheeks or arms that gets worse in the sun.

Don't know if this is something like this, but thought I would make you aware of it.

Doug beat me to the punch. I was going to quote the abbot labs symptoms one being joint pain. If fill your doctor in ASAP. It might be nothing, but as with anything with this drug and disease its highly individualized and I've learned to never ignore the small warning signs ever again.
