When i had my sigmoidoscopy, the results showed I was affected in the rectal area only, so they call it Proctitis? The doc said anyway I have IBD and am asacol although its not as bad as it was the first 3 weeks I had it. She also said Criptitis was mentioned, what is criptitis??

Hi Lara
Cryptitis is an inflammation of the crypts, which are part of the cellular structure of the intestines.
The doctor will have taken biopsies during the sigmoidoscopy and these are sent to the histology lab for tissue processing.
This procedure will indicate the inflamed cells.
Cryptitis can be found in both crohn's and ulcerative colitis.(IBD)
Hope you will soon be feeling better
