Hi everyone I am Janet ( new to Forums ) 44years old

I was diagnosed with Crohns 11 years and told they didn't recommed a operation as I was classed as cronic ! .I went the ellimental diet which was hell but it carmed everything down for a while . About 5 years ago I was diagnosed with cancer of the thyroid and after two operations they removed the whole thing ( which was horrible ) .I am now currently taking -

Pentasa
thyroxin
calcichew ( for calcium)
Propranolol

Since the removal of the thyroid the crohns attacks have become more frequent , has anyone else had the whole glands removed if so what treatment are you taking .

Hello Janet and welcome to the forum :)

I am unable to help with your query about the thyroid removal but I was wondering whether you still see a GI doc and when was the last time things were checked tummy wise? Also have you been on any other meds previously for the crohn's?

Hi

Thanks for the reply

Previously tried steroids but can't be on those things for long . I go and the doc every 6 months but when the Crohn's is active ( which is most of the time at the moment ) the thyroid tablets don't work and I just sleep .................... .

Have you come across anyone else with this problem .

thanks

Janet

I haven't myself but hopefully someone will soon come long who can help. When is your next appt with the doc, it may be worth seeing if it can be brought forward so some up to date tests can be done.

Hello Janet
Sorry you are having problems.
My thyroid does not function and I take thyroxine daily, also have regular six month checks on it.
I have not noticed any relationship to the crohn's I have. The two conditions don't seem to be related for me., as far as I have noted.
However, I still have the glands and have not had any surgery.
It will be interesting to see if anyone else has had increased symptoms with the gland s removed.
Sorry I can't be of much help here.
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes
Trysha

Hi Janet and welcome to the community. Thank you for joining and sharing your story.

First, I can't relate to the thyroid issues but think it's important that you get as much insight as possible. As such, I've copied your thread here and renamed the title in an effort to get you some more responses. I hope you don't mind. If you do, please let me know and I'll remove it.

Second, I agree with Angrybird big time. You need to have your disease evaluated. I say that because you're only on Pentasa. Frankly, Pentasa likely isn't controlling your disease like you need it to be and it is likely getting progressively worse. Make an appointment so they can evaluate your current disease state and put you on more powerful medications if need be.

We're here for you!
