hey all, just a quick question!
im 23 recently diagnosed with Crohn's which kinda got under control with meds how ever been its return with vengance i went to my GI who sent me for a blood test which returned with the CRP level at 13.2mg/L but also the Serum ALT level was extreamly high as 195u/L was just woundering if anyone elce has had high ALT levels with crohns?

Thanks!!

Merry Xmas :)

Yes I've had high ALT levels for a long time... A few years in fact!! What medications are you currently on?

i take prednisolne 5mg 4 tablets in the morning and mesren 400mg 2 tablets 4 times a day, b12 shots monthly and iron suppluments. my doc wants to change my meds as there not working proply. have an appointment thursday....fill up on immodium till then :(. just abit worried about the ALT so high. according to the results it should be under 55u/L and its at 195 :/

alanine aminotransferase (ALT) enzymes released into the blood when liver cells are damaged ( from what the doc told me )

Yeah mine were 365 at one point and my gp freaked out and wanted me off of ALL medication. I wouldn't worry too much if it's just a one off. Do you take a lot of paracetamol? I'd assume your doc will repeat your bloods to see if its still high. How were all of your other liver function results? My hospital did an immunology test on me and they think its actually my body causing it rather than anything external.

I am sure that the docs will take the tests into consideration when putting you on different medication. When are you seeing them again?

my alkaline phosphatatase was also at 189u/L today i went to the emg room as pain was unbearable and tests have shown inflamation of the liver bile ducts, been given pain meds which have done a great job! im booked in friday for more tests and a biospy. will stay updated as and when i know more. thanks for your replys.

Thanks! i have an appointment in the morning also with my GP to get some painkillers, as im new to this its rather hit and miss atm regarding medication....foods ect. i found out the hard way that cola and spicy food is a major no go! lol. anyone know of anything stronger than immodium?
