Just wondering if anyone that suffers from crohns disease has any other inflammatory problems in their bodies.. I have a problem with chronic siniusitis, I have been on so many antibiotics its not even funny.. Never work or help, I have been suffering with the siniusitis for about 3 years, crohns 8 years, the only thing that cleared them up was when I was put on prednisone for a flare of my crohns but as I went off pred. my sinius problems came back..
Any Ideas????

Well, I have allergies really bad all year, and since I've been put on Pred, I haven't had any issues with itchy eyes or sinus problems. I do have a lot of problems with a stuffy nose, but again, nothing since I've been on the Pred.

Get an RX for Nasonex, it's steroid based, my GP gave me a sample and it works great, I have sinus issues, usally issues with runny nose and my GP looked up my nose and said it looked like I have chronic inflammation, though it's mild, just enough to cause runny nose more frequently than normal...so the Nasonex being steroid based actually aids that...and it's better than taking pred for that because it doesn't get enough into your blood stream so chances of side effects are little to none

Talk to your GP about it, I'm not sure how long term it can be used since I haven't gotten an actual RX filled for it, just used up the sample I got, but went back to using salonex (salt water nasal spray) for when I get stuffy since sometimes that can be an issue for me as well.

:)

Have a look at something called Neilmed Sinusrinse.

Its not the most pleasant of things to do but my asthma/allergy consultant was at me for months to try it. I eventually gave in and it works! I find my sinus problems deteriorate if I dont do it. My father is even using it now and is finding benefit too and he has had such severe infections in the past he has ruptured eardrums!

The rinse is a solution that doesnt sting or burn and you use lukewarm water as per the instructions (either distilled or boiled). Salt water can burn the sensitive membranes and form crystals that also leave the door open for infection. The rinse solution also helps to balance your nasal mucosa again and you dont have that extreme from dry to blocked to streaming phases either once it starts to improve. You do "drain" fluid for about half an hour after the rinse BUT its easy solved by having a paper kleenex handy and nothing you wouldnt already have to hand eh?

Depends how desperate you are. Steroid nasal sprays can be sore on the lining over time and have a rebound effect too I think eventually. This has been the best relief ever I have found in all the years I have had sinusitis (since my teens and I am almost 40) and believe me I have tried alot of stuff lol I used to have sinus infections every 6wks roughly, constant sore throat, ear pressure problems and dizzyness too when bad. It also used to trigger my asthma and funnily enough my asthma has improved too!

See what you think.. I took some convincing but it does work I have to say.. just can be a bit of a phaff but like I said depends on how much you want the relief!

I tend to suffer from sinusitis, and also upper respiratory tract infections... usually bad enough to keep me off work for up to a month... I look on it as my annual January holiday, although I really do feel bad with it, so not much of a "holiday"! Also get the sore throat thing and had labyrinthitis in my inner ear a few years ago and still get dizzy spells. No-one has ever made the link with Crohns though... like all the other things I suffer from, which keep popping up in this forum!
Interesting!

I have the achy joints that comes with Crohn's. I asked one of my docs about it, a really knowledgeable fellow - and he says 'well of course, it's an auto-immune disfunction that causes inflammation, and that won't be limited just to the small and large intestine, your immune system can bother anything it wants to'.

Yeah, I have 3 other autoimmune disorders that affect my thyroid, my skin, and all connective tissues in my body including the lining around my heart, lungs, and once in a while, my abdomenal cavity. Fortunately, the plaquenil is helping remove the fluid that builds up in those areas. Once you get one autoimmune disease, you're at a greater risk for getting more. Once I find out if I have CD or UC (hopefully tomorrow), I'll officially have 4 of them. And those were all found since June/July of 07. Blah. You never know which one is the one that causing you grief this time with the exception of the skin condition (Psoriasis), and who knows which one probably CAUSED the psoriasis in the first place!
