Hello ladies. I'm not new but I haven't posted in awhile. I was wondering if anyone else experiences this: that last couple of times I have flared up I hurt in my abdomen but it radiates down into my vagina, like the opening. It also cramps there when I pass stool. This is a new area for me. I haven't seen my GI dr yet, but I will soon hopefully. I was just wondering if anyone else experiences this and what it could be. Thanks so much.

Hi Dana,

Sounds painful :-( I don't have any experience with it myself but am wondering if it could be down to a fistula at all? I would definitely have it checked out by the doc.

Sorry I can't be more help, hopefully someone else can chime in on this thread :)

I was just coming here to post the same thing. I, however, do not have a fistula or even rectal involvement (as of my last scope 5 months ago). I'm having very uncomfortable vaginal pressure/pain. I have no idea what's causing it.

Last year I had extreme shooting pain across my vagina. If my head is north, the pain went from east to west across the "bottom" of my vagina. Went to the GI and the GYN. All they came up with it's chron's related have some pain killers and hope it goes away. It lasted for several months. After I had surgery to remove a blockage, the pain has finally subsided, but it still happens every now & again. Not very helpful I know, but at least your not alone. I have 2 vaginal fistulas.

I get this exact, intense pain too. Doesn't happen all the time but when it does sometimes I'm literally unable to move, it's shooting and concentrated. Hard to describe. I hate that you guys experience this too. So far all I do is a hot bath if I can move, or a warm water bottle applied to the area.

I asked my GI about it and he said it was fistula/narrowing related. I know it's worse for me when I'm "regular" as opposed to diarrhea. Thanks to all who have responded, it seems like there are a lot of us who get the same kinds of pain there. Good to talk about it with you all :)

I have a rectovaginal fistula (at least I think it is from my Internet studies). None of the five doctors that I've seen have been able to find it. Anyway, I have feces and gas coming out of my vagina so in the morning before I have BMs, great gas pressure pushes down on my vagina and I feel like I am 8 months pregnant. I am pushing my doctors to do tests that they have not yet tried. They have done vaginal sonograms and a colonoscopy and said they couldn't find the fistula.

I have a recto/vaginal Fistula. Ima have to go see a surgeon after my Colonoscopy May 8th. Its the size of my finger tip, which makes me pass loose stool & air from the Fistula opening & my Vagina. I`m scared of whats gonna happen now :( Hope you get well soon.

Hey ladies, this is my first look in this subform but I want you to know that endo and crohns do commonly occur together. I am currently being tested for endo, due to insurance issues the ultrasound and lap had to be pushed back to next month but I'm confident thats what is causing my additional pain and discomfort. I've never had fistulae and it sounds awful, I commend you for fighting thru it. I'm sorry to hear of your pain tho mine is different. I experience shooting pains and crazy cramping/discomfort in the lower abdomen during/after sex. It turns out that some of my back pain and other symptoms that I thought were attributed to other health conditions of mine could be endo. Time will tell. I hope pain relief and diagnosis of the pain find you soon Dana, tech, hanna...

I've never had a fistula (touching wood I never do) even though I'm actually at high risk of developing one because my CD affects my colon, on and off in my rectum and continuously (as with my colon) in/on my anus with perianal crohn's skin tags and I've never been in full remission the entire 21 yrs that I've now had active CD....on occassion I too have had shooting pains in my vagina and often at the sametime, in my anus as well, it scares me when this happens because I'm always afraid that it's the start of a vagina/rectal fistula but so far nothing....thank goodness...and the pain passes in the same day and might not happen again for months/yrs...so I'm at a loss as to what it's from too.

I don't have a fistula either but I do get vaginal pain with bad flare ups. My guess is that the bowel wall neighbouring the vaginal wall and all those sensitive nerves transfer the pain. I have pretty much a constant feeling of pre-period aches all month long when my bowel is bad. Glad I'm not the only one, I was coming here to ask the same.

Can crohn's cause endometriosis, I wonder?

They're very common together! Usually the endometriosis comes first, I think - but since a lot of women can have it without even knowing (an estimated 6-10% of the female population, I think), I wouldn't be too concerned with the order in which symptoms appear.

I'd suggest that anyone experiencing these symptoms discuss it with their GI and gynecologist.

:)
