Just wondering what you guys thought of Crohn's and IB Diseases before you were DX'd. For me my aunt had it but I didn't know much except something was wrong in her gut and it was a terrible disease that you didn't want to get.
I didn't know much about it at all when I was younger; a high school band teacher had Crohn's, and I knew that she was off sick a lot. In the weeks before I was diagnosed, I had come across the term when googling my symptoms, so when the doc gave me the official word, I had a basic knowledge of what it entailed.
I knew almost nothing about crohn's before being diagnosed. The way my doctor put it was "it's unfortunate, but at least it's not cancer or anything worse." I guess that was sort of uplifting in a way?
My bosses daughter had crohn's and she was sooo incredibly sick. I actually remember thinking to myself "hmm, I have some of those symptoms, but I'm nowhere near as sick as she is, so it can't be crohn's". Ten years later, guess what I get diagnosed with
I really didn't know anything about it. Other than a lot of the times while searching my own issues (anemia, dehydration, fissures, ect.) I kept coming acrossed this word 'crohn's' and 'irratible bowel' .. But that's pretty much it. When the gi doc in the hospital told me i had it, i was likes like "kay........ *has absolutely no clue what it is other than it sounded fimliar* how do we get the ball rolling and get this thing taken care of?" and THEN his answer was the beginning of what I now know lots (yet still not nearly enough) about.
No, not really. I mean my Uncle has it but never really thought much of it. Didn't really know what it was. I was sick for 15 years before we figured out I have Crohn's. We just thought it was IBS and/or lactose intolerance.
I didnt know anything about crohns or ibd. I was always told I probably had ibs. I was lucky when I was dx'd my sister was working at a pediatric GI office. Very helpful!!
When we were told my immediate thoughts were, God she's barely 16!!!! Crohn's disease??????? When I was a youngster we used to call people "old cronies" so I thought it was something to do with old age and when I heard the word disease I........
I called both sets of families and asked them if they knew anything about it - they also had never heard of it. I read about it on google and thought they must have made a mistake as Meg had never had any problems with her "bowel movements" and diarrhea was a sympton according to the medical pages. Now I know that some people have different symptons and it really does vary from one person to the next.

I was on a fishing vacation in SE Texas when I woke up in the wee hours of the morning literally trying to bleed to death out of my rear..the first thing went through my mind was "oh no,cancer". I'd didn't know anything about crohn's...I just remember being relieved when the doc said it wasn't cancer after 5 blood transfusions and a week or so in the hospital.
