Some of you who have read my thread on holistics know that I have been off of medicine for nearly a year now. However I had been treated with 6MP, and subsequently taken off of it for an acute and immediate reaction. I was on it for around three months. My labs showed a reaction that the GI dept. here in PGH "had never seen before". I noted this as strange and went along my business using this as motivation for my holistic path.
Recently though, some lab results are coming back showing b12 elevation. My doctor expresses "no explanation" for this. Naturally I researched it.
From what I can gather, it's rare. My liver levels are normal and so another possibility is leukemia. (Often first diagnosed due to b12 levels in unrelated blood tests).
The reason I 'jump the gun' here is because of the scholarly medical journals (available to an extent online, all reputable) reporting a significant relationship between (1) Crohn's Disease and certain types of leukemia and (2) Treatment of 6MP and resulting development of certain types of leukemia.
I of course intend to get tested/talk to my doctor about it. I'm not taking an b12 supplements and I am currently on a 100% liquid diet, therefore providing me with 'just enough' b12 (4-5 Ensure's a day).
I wanted to know if anyone could offer insight on this?
