crohns my story!

hi there i have been suffering from crohns for 10 years now it started with the loose stools pain and blood had a colonoscopy in 2000 when it was diagnosed i was put on steriod 60mg to be exact. but they cudnt get me off the steriods as my symptoms wud return then i was started on azathoprine 200mg but this didnt help either so i was started on infliximab in 2002 combined with the 200mg of azathioprine this worked great for me i still had the odd flare up and hospital stay but i was doing fine up and till around three years ago when i was admitted to hospital with really bad chest pain which at first they thought it was a heart attack but it turned out to be pericarditis( not sure of the spelling)this has been now diagnosed as chronic and i visit a pain clinic now and have just been awareded funding for spinal stimulation (hope this works as i take morphine and wear a fentanyl patch 50micro grams) i have had at least 5 hospital addmitions for this and had to give up work in 2008 because of all this i have researched this quite alot and it has a link to crohns suprise suprise oh and i forgot to mention i have diabetes type1 which was steriod induced from my treatment. all was reasonably wellish up and til xmas 2009 when i stopped eating and couldnt swallow and was vomiting all the time i was 12stone in weight at xmas my weigh plummted over 5 months and i was addmited to hopstial on the 5th of may 2010 with malnurishement and diabetic ketoacidosis and my weight was 8 and half stone i cudnt eat i didnt feel hungry i was just being sick all the time eventually i was being fed through a tube in my nose and i started to gain weight after seeing dieticians gastro doctors etc etc and having many scans oh and all my lymph nodes were swollen in my neck and have been for 5months to that point and still are they thought i had lymphoma but after scans i got the all clear on that one (thank god) after 5 weeks in hospital iam now home with no firm diagnosis of whats wrong but they have suspended my infliximab and azathioprine and yesterday i had a follow up appointment on the 25/06/2010 they are now saying that its possible side effects of infliximab so there you go my story so far!

Hi Steve, welcome! You've had a rough go. Are you able to keep food down now? How long have you been off the meds? Hope things are improving. Good luck.

Hi Steve, welcome to the forum. I must say you have had a rough journey! Coping must be an every day struggle. Most of us have been on alot of the drugs you are on, and you seem to get all the bad side effects and less common ones, although we fear them. Prednisone is a love/hate drug and being on high doses do pose risk of diabetes. Type 1 being the worst. You seem to fight your way and keep yourself stable as much as you can.

I am assuming what diet you do have is limited. Where is your Crohns located?

Lots of friendly people to help you with support and info. :hang:

Glad you joined us.

Hi Steve,

Welcome to the forum! Thank you for sharing your story - you've been going through a lot, I can't even imagine how frustrating it must be to feel so ill for so long and not know how to make it better. I really hope the doctors find out what is wrong, and find a way to treat you as soon as possible. This forum is a really good place to share experiences, learn from others and meet nice people, so I hope you will enjoy it here! I certainly do! :) I'm a new member as well.

All the best to you!
