Hi. Anyone had problems with swelling of the ankles and feet to the point it hurts and aches? Is this crohns disease or mercaptopurine?

I had swelling of my ankles and calves before my Crohn's diagnosis and treatment. I take Humira and 6mp. I have no pain related to the swelling. I saw my PCP about my swelling and he recommended compression socks. My PCP wrote down which compression socks would be best for me and I love them. They work. And my legs feel better too. They are open toed and go below my knee. Never use compression socks without seeing a doctor first, you could be buying the wrong kind for your specific problem.

I had terrible foot, ankle and calve swelling 10 years ago and I did not realize how serious it was. Once I finally DID see a doctor I got an appointment as soon as I could for a Deep Vein Ultrasound to check for blood clots. This is strange, but after the ultrasound my feet, ankle and calves swelling went away and I was back to normal.

This is not medical advice, it is just what I have experienced.

my little penguin is right, definitely see a Rheumatologist.

I hope you find relief for your pain soon. ❤
Take Care.

yes do consult your doctor asap for this issue. We are more at risk or vein and blood clot issues with IBD and the lower legs is a common site of trouble. Compression socks as mentionned by Lynda help a lot of people.
Arthritis is common too with IBD.

I learn everything from this forum. My doctor tells me nothing. I did not know about the blood clots. So frustrating. Three months into Humira and 6mp is NOW when the FNP tells me about skin cancer and cervical cancer and getting certain inoculations. No mention about nutrition, a dietitian, weight loss, exercise, stress reduction, vitamins, supplements. Nothing.

Just prescribed me the Humira and 6mp and left it to at that. The FNP even discouraged me about getting information from people in the internet. Well without the people here I would know nothing. Why does my GI treat me like a third grader.
Sorry for the rant.

Lynda
