OK... I guess it is more a maybe at this point so am not going to change my signature yet.
I was going throught a pretty long flare and having lots of D as well as some blood, cramping and so on. After about 6 months of yuck, a colonoscopy, endoscopy, and camera endoscopy the Gastro found no evidence of Crohn's, or anything else for that matter. No polyps, evidence of gastritis, colitis, celiac, and my hiatal hernia has disappeard, and no cause for the blood. He said," I am not saying you don't have IBD, but I am not saying you don't either".
Well!
He adjusted the dosage of Lialda and it had no effect. He was going to switch me to an IBS drug if that didn't work. I contacted him via email after the medication change did not work and told him I wanted to try nothing first. Guess what? Sucess!
I have been recieving B12 shots and D in large doses due to difficiencies as well as hormones for a severe imbalance. I have eliminated sugar, artificial sweeteners, processed foods, coffee, milk, and beer. I limit dairy to some cheese and small amounts of cream and sour cream. When I first started eating like this I only ate well cooked vegetables and have graduated to raw leafy vegetables as long as I don't eat too much. I still have trouble with iceburg lettuce at times. I eat small amounts of fruit, but not daily yet. I have an occasional cocktail or glass of red wine. I still take the probiotic florastor daily. I am not 100%...but will have to say that I am feeling much better. I still have an occasional spot of red blood on the TP and some cramping, and still have the occasional night time stomach ache, but I am down to having 1-2 BM per day,(FORMED!) with only 1 day of D in the last 2 weeks. Bloating is down also. Rashes are also subsiding.
I discussed this developement with a registered nurse with the wellness program at my insurance company, and she told me that Lialda side effects can develop over time and that is likely what happened. I am not going to rock the boat by starting another medication unless my gastro thinks it is necessary. So, for the time being I am medication free and feeling better.
Wish me luck!
