Dear Crohn's Forum Members:

I'm posting about an opportunity for individuals diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. As someone living with Crohn's myself, I both work for the firm and have participated in this program so I can help answer any questions you might have.

My firm, Plasma Services Group, is looking for individuals diagnosed with Crohn's as potential blood plasma donors. This blood plasma is used by the manufacturers of test kits to help diagnose individuals with Crohn's.

We pay donors $50 for a sample donation to see if your antibody titers qualify you as a donor. If we find that you are qualified, we will pay $250 or more for a full plasma donation.

Our primary locations are in the Philadelphia suburbs, Miami + Ft. Lauderdale, Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles area. However, if we can obtain recent blood test results that show you are a qualified donor, we may be willing to fly you to one of our locations at our cost.

Please feel free to review our new donor website http://www.plasmaservicesgroup.com/pages/newdonorinfo.php to understand the program better. There is also a questionnaire so you can help to determine whether you may be qualified.

You can contact me via e-mail at [email protected] with any questions or if interested in learning more.

Best regards,

Stu Fleishman

I'm in San Francisco and would be interested. I'm sending you an email - my name is Andrew Wiser and it should arrive shortly.

i was wondering about this myself... I am from Baton Rouge Louisiana. I have thought about donating before but was worried about my blood being affected and giving "Bad Blood"

Hey All,

Just wanted to bring this thread back from the dead. Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] if you have been diagnosed with Crohn's/Colitis and may be interested in donating plasma. Your plasma would be used for diagnostic purposes, and you could make some extra cash if you qualify.

My firm focuses on patients in the US primarily, although we may be able to direct individuals in other countries to the best location for you.

You do require medical clearance from your doctor and be otherwise healthy enough to donate plasma.

Please contact me directly at [email protected] for more information.

I emailed you the first time you posted the website information and request for donors and never received a response. If you still need people in the San Francisco area contact me at: andrew DOT wiser AT ucsf DOT edu.

Thunday Bay were I live has the only plasma blood centre in North America, and Crohnies are not allow to give it or blood period. I am surprised this was posted, especially for Crohn's.

Plasma donation is very common, this guy works for specific labs that make tests for crohn's using the plasma. I was in contact with this guy when he first posted... as far as I can see this isn't a scam... but I'm not completely sure because I never fully went through with it.

I know a lot of my college friends would go to the donation center on my campus for beer money.

it would have been preferred if PlasmaStu had contacted Admin here to request whether or not these posts would be acceptable on our forum. anyway - the posts are done now, so it's too late..

i just wanted to warn anyone reading this thread, who may be considering contacting this company and/or donating blood/plasma through them, that Crohn's Forum is not responsible for any outcome, physically or financially.

ooooooo good point, Ding.

A bit of a different note...I wonder if that could be a disclaimer right on the front page of the site? Something about all info within these pages in anecdotal and the webmasters/site owners are not responsible for any outcomes. (I was just thinking this may help with the whole "aloe vera cure" thing - and I pick that one as it seems to be the top of the pile right now... lol)

yep Silver, we're in the process of rewording the front page message & it will include a disclaimer along those lines - thanks for suggesting this though - it is a very important point. :)

Canadians dont get paid for donating blood or plasma, if they did the beer store would never close. :ylol2::ylol2:

We aren't allowed to donate for concerns over how it could affect potential recipients of the blood/plasma. For diagnostic reasons, assuming you aren't anemic, there should be no issue if your doctor consents to it.

Im currently speaking with a member of where PlasmaStu works about going to TN to donate b/c thats the only place they are currently bleeding crohns patients. Ive had crohns for over 5 yrs now and Im border line anemic and my doctor says its ok to donate as long as Im careful about it. Im waiting to see if I have the right antibodies to donate plasma and Im hoping I do to try this place out!

Its not like regular plasma donations like my fiance currently does for a place in Gainesville, Fl b/c thats just for ppl that need it and specific blood types. Its used in the research of Crohns to help fight and find a cure. Im all up for that plus some extra cash!!

Yep, this is a fairly common thing to do. It's not like regular donation. The blood is used for RESEARCH and not donated to patients who need blood (i.e via Red cross). I did it a couple years back with a different company. I can't donate to the Red Cross so I might as well make use of my blood somehow.

I am in Jacksonville FL.

how do i donate? when do you want a sample? miami is the closer to Jacksonville, i just need transportation to & from. ... does the fatigue ever go away? living with chorns that is..? will i ever have the energy like i use to again? if not ..what can i do about it, can i take energy boosters or is that a bad idea?

Hi Rising Flower and welcome to the forum. I'm afraid this thread was created way back in 2009 so I doubt you'll get the response you're looking for. Would you like to create a thread in our Your Story forum and tell us about what you're experiencing? We might be able to answer some of your questions at that point :)

I dont have a doctor yet, but through it all God has been keeping me :) i suffered two years trying to find out what was going on with me & in my body, i had no idea that it was chorns or even that it exsit until this pass Oct. 2011.I thought some thing strange was happening to me & I was treated like a hypercondreact ,going in & out of the ER & hospitals with no coverage,no income, & no primary care doctor.

I choose Rising Flower as my name because with God I am going to rise above & blossom over this, I've always been told I will only make it only so far in life but my faith & determination is greater then what people say or expect of me. This is only a sample of my story.
