Ct Enterography (My grrr story)

HI everyone.

Just wanted to share my bad experience :ymad: at the hospital for my CT enterography tests.


I went to the hospital yesterday morning and was told by a nurse to drink this liquid within an hour then they would come get me in 30 minutes.
So I did what i was told. I had all liquids drank by 8am. Then a few minutes later it hit me like a brick, didnt quite get to the Bathroom. Had to get my husband to go to the car and get me some clean clothes. Changed and went to the nurses station who got the manager of the department to talk to me. Apparently the nurse who gave me the drink and the instructions gave me wrong intructions, the solution was not suppose to be drank that fast it was, 1 glass every 15 fro 1.5 hours and not 6 glasses in 1 hour.

Anyway to make the story shorter, they could not give me the test and since I was 2.5 hours away from home had to go back to the hotel and use the loo again and again and again, and even on the way home had to go a few times in the nice woods.

I was so mad and fustrated, they called me today and asked if i could go back on March 8, I said no and took the April 5 appt next, my intestines are hurting so much and I have so much cramps, I'm headed to my family doctor today to see if he will give me a few prednisones to calm things down.

But hear my words, if the same nurse tries to give me the intructions I will refuse and ask for another.

What an awful thing to happen to you. I think you need to put in a complaint, that is not acceptable!

sorry. i currently have a ban on test after too many experiences like that. complain to the place and let you gi know so they won't send people there

That is awful......These tests are stressful enough without incompetence like that.

My son has had that same test and was required to drink the fluid in an hour, so 150mls every ten minutes and to only stop if diarrhoea started.

I still feel like crap today.

And I'm worried if I go next time that the same thing will happen and if so, will I be able to ever take the test??

Anyway I'll try to only worry about it when the time comes. Hard to do :ylol2:

I had pretty much the same happening to me... I had to drink 1,5L of the solution in 30 minutes... When I had my accident (I have an ileostomy so slightly different), well I told them to warn us it was not only a possibility of having a little diarrhea, it was more like an insane laxative.... I don't know if there is other way of administering that test considering it seems to not affect everyone as intensely... I hope the next time will be easier for you.

When I had mine, it was 1 glass every 15 minutes but only 4 glasses. Mine was the aniseed/liquorice tasting stuff, maybe there's different kinds and that's why there's differences?

I did have horrendous diarrhoea, but not for a few hours, I was up on the ward (had the CT as an in patient) when it hit. And I did just make it, but there was a hairy moment when I had to stand still in the middle of the ward, clenching with all my might!

To the OP- I don't know if pred would be necessary, as it isn't a true flare just after effects from the drink. I would ask for strong painkillers which will see off the cramps and lessen the diarrhoea, once the drink is out hopefully you will feel better. I was the same after my colonoscopy but it cleared up after a few days on its own.
