Curious how many families have this,

What is odd - I would have an "attack" maybe once a year, appears to be stress related. Since my daughter's diagnosis, I've had several "lighter" attacks. I chalk it up to the universe reminding me how miserable she is and to try to understand some of her symptoms.

Husband has IBS, son has crohns.

However, we also have family members, on both sides, with either crohns or UC. If there is a connection, in S's case, the connection could more likely be with those who have IBD???

My mother had IBS...her granddaughter has Crohn's. My husband is Lactose Intolerant (wonder if there is a connection with that).

I'd heard this recently too. Both my husband and I have IBS and one of two sons has Crohn's

I was always told I had IBS because tests never show anything but GI now thinks I may have damaged or defective vagus nerves causing GI issues and Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome symptoms...who knows.

So, possible IBS for me, CD for son and now GI issues being investigated for daughter.

You should make this a poll!

My husband's maternal aunt had either Crohn's or Colitis - don't know if they ever had a definitive diagnosis and she has been dead for over 25 years. Hubby has not been diagnosed with anything but definitely has stomach "issues" and our son has Crohn's.

One grandmother has IBS, the other grandmother IBD and her son (my husband) has AS, so I'm guessing all of this just runs in the family.
M has IBD and IBS (and AS).

I have not been dx'd, but all signs seem to indicate I have IBS. There are a lot of bowel issues in both my mom's and dad's families, but no one formally dx'd with IBS or IBD. There is also RA in my mom's side of the family. No other auto-immune diseases that I am aware of. No bowel issues or auto-immune diseases on either side of my husband's families, other than common allergies and asthma. We have 2 sons, one with Crohn's.

One son with Crohns, I have Coeliac, type 1 diabetes, underactive thyroid. My Mum has Vasculitis and underactive thyroid and my late Nan had vitiligo. Lots of auto-ammune issues here!!!!!!
