Hello Fellow Troopers. I currently have an ostomy bag and an unattached J-Pouch. I do Remicade infusions every two months. Because of many difficulties with the "J" I'm now contemplating a K-pouch and/or just go with a permanent bag. Does anyone have comments about the K-pouch surgery, recovery, problems, etc. Thanks so much.

Hi Margo and :welcome:

Sorry, I don't know anything about J or K pouches as I have Crohn's Disease and pouches are not suitable for that, but I do have an ileostomy. And my life has changed radically in a positive way since I have had it!

If you are interested in finding out more about a permanent bag, just ask. There are lots of people on here who will be more than happy to answer your questions.

Hi Margo. I agree with the above posts. Have you tried googling k pouches to find out more. I had an ileostomy for 11mths it was a lifesaver at the time , im now back to 'normal'whatever that is !!!. If i was to need an ostomy again i would go for a permenant one . Check out all options n discuss with your docs as to what will be best for you.
Best wishes 💕

Hi Mandy- My 13 year old son is set to have reversal in a couple of months. What is life like after the ostomy bag? He is doing perfect now, no symptoms at all. I'm hoping this continues. Why would you prefer a permanent bag if you had to do this over?

Hi well for me after reversal,it took a few months for toilet visits to settle down from 15aday to 1or2. I have been able to eat anything i want with very few issues. No pain at all in my guts. . I need to take loperimide to keep my stool form being loose but other wise no meds.
The reason i say i would opt for permanant one if i need to again ,is just because at my age 53 . I would rather not go though any more ops than nessesary. No other reason than that. Without wanting to put a damper on things , every one is different. So it will hopefuly be good , but no one can promise that. Wishing your son n yourself all the best . Hugs 💕
