I just had a colonoscopy yesterday, and the doctor wants me to try Humira, but but I am scared of the side effects, but I am also scared not doing anything.

I guess I am more afraid of the cancer side effects and weight gain. I have been off prednisone for about two years now, and still can't get the weight off...I don't want more on top of that!

I can understand your concern. Regarding the cancer, the chances are VERY low. If you don't have Rheumatoid Arthritis, aren't a young adult or younger, and aren't on 6-MP, Imuran, or Azathioprine, then the chances are even lower.

As for the weight gain, some seem to gain some seem to lose weight. I think it's different for everyone and of course, some don't experience any weight changes.

I'm sure others will be by soon with additional insight and personal experiences.

It's a hard decision for sure :(

Hi AshleyElaine87. I was concerned about going on tnf blockers because I'm so used to popping a pill so needing a shot or infusion freaked me out a bit. I had to switch to Humira from 6MP because the 6MP was starting to affect my liver. I'm trying to stay in remission and have been on many different medications over the years so tnf blockers are just about all I have left to try.

I took Humira for a few months and had to stop recently and will be switching to Remicade. I kept getting upper resp colds from the Humira (its just now starting to go away and I've been sick for a month or more). There have been many people on the forum who haven't had this issue though and are doing well on Humira so I hope that doesn't scare you off from trying it. I honestly never heard that it could affect your weight. Nothing happened to my weight but it was only a few months.

I was super scared about going on Humira too. But I tell you what, I'm glad I did. I feel pretty good now and that makes it all worthwhile.
