I had absolutely no symptoms of anything related to my digestive system until after I had the Mirena inserted. I have had it over 2 1/2 years and finally switched OBGYN's and found one who would remove it. I feel like if I never had it, I would not be in the state I am in now. In addition to the Crohn's, I have had numerous other side effects as well. Does anyone else out there have the Mirena? And if so, did you first start showing symptoms of Crohn's after getting it?

I had the Mirena and it caused cramping so I had it removed. I wish I had kept it, other than that I loved it. I started the NuvaRing and it caused me a lot of problems.

I have read an article/study implicating contraceptives in crohns flares.

That's so weird because I thought I remembered reading that birth control was associated with increased Crohn's rates, but when I tried to look up information on that I came up empty.

Diesanduhr - my friend does not have IBD, but just tried the nuvaring for one week. She had suck a bad week she wanted to walk into traffic! Needless to say, I will not be trying that!

My mom thought I got crohns from the paraguard IUD I had...based on the fact I am allergic to nickle. Unfortunatly when I got it taken out I still have crohns lol and my symotoms didn;t get better. But the yeast infections got a lot better(haven;t had a single one since it's out, a big difference from monthly yeast infections) My crohns also didn;t appear as soon as I got it in either...it took around 4 years to turn it's head

Have you tried a low dose pill? It keeps me on track with my meds and I feel 100 times better than when I had the papraguard.

Thankfully I don't need to be on birth control anymore. I took it for over six years and every method I tried made me miserable. Although I did like Mirena the best of what I tried.
