Feeling a bit rubbish about myself and wasn't sure where this would fit so popped it in here.

So this morning was a normal morning, I was in my office extra early (I'm always in my office before any other staff) and I was just doing my usual stuff when SUDDENLY I felt a bad cramp. Giving that I'm flaring I ran to the ladies toilets and literally just made it to the door when everything went. I ran into a cubicle and stripped and it was blood and mucus everywhere. I was so humiliated as I can't emphasise enough how quickly it happened. I had to fight back the tears as I stood with my blood stained pants in my hands thinking as a grown, professional woman, this shouldn't have happened. So, pants binned and trousers damp with me running them under the tap (had to do something) I put my jacket back on and headed to supermarket to buy a pair of trousers and some pants.

Then when I got home, same thing happened again. I didn't make it to the bathroom though. Again, no one saw me but I feel so embarrased and ashamed. It literally seconds of warning. The blood and mucus bit is almost normal for me these days and obviously I'll be speaking go my GI but I've never had urgency issues like that before :frown:

I've packed a spare pair of trousers and pants and think I'll wear a sanitary towel just incase. Now I'm scared that this is it from now on. Has anyone else had this and the urgency left them again?

Hi Lilac,
I'm new to this forum albeit a couple of days ago when asking about the medication I take for the "Microscopic Colitis". I have had the same "accidental experiences as you except there was no blood or mucus. I can't tell you how many sheets I've stained in the middle of the night. NO ONE can relate to this unless it's described as a sort of "dysentary". I've found that powdered Psyllium Husk (1 heaping teaspoon in a large glass of purified water) once a day adds bulk to the stool & seems to help (when I remember to utilize it).

thanks DJW and FX35 - will try that out. Seriously hoping this is just a short lasting thing

I'm so sorry. I'm glad you are getting in touch with your GI. To answer your question, Urgency, blood and mucus now doesn't mean this is forever. You are in an acute flare and hopefully with the proper treatment will be restored to normal. I have had Urgency and several accidents a day and that went away after proper treatment.

I used to have accidents sometimes before I had an ileostomy. You'll probably find incontinence pads work better than sanitary towels - it's what they're designed for. Make sure you get ones for bowel incontinence, ones for bladder incontinence may not be strong enough.

Hi UnXmas, yeah was thinking about the incontinance pads was hoping I didn't have to go down that route. But thankfully no similar incidents today

Lilac, I was diagnosed last November we are having difficulty regulating my meds and I still have the urgency thing. Not always but I can tell when I am having a particularly bad day. This too shall pass as the saying goes when things settle for you. Try not to be too hard on yourself and laugh a little. I also am a professional woman and I have to tell you if I didn't have a seriously warped sense of humor I would be in trouble. I just went on holiday to Oregon with my best friends and cousin last week and we went for Mexican food (not that I don't know that I shouldn't eat that) wonderful food after being mostly very good for the last year and although I enjoyed it immensely I have to tell you it took longer going in than it did coming out. Barely made it back to the condo and then that was it for me for the rest of that night and all of the next day - talk about urgency. But it was good.

Hi Lilac, I'm another professional woman who's had this happen too (fortunately not often and also fortunately not while at work, yet). And I'm 34 so I can definitely relate - when I had an accident in my pants, I was at home, but even so it was absolutely humiliating to be an adult who just pooped their pants. I just went into the shower and cried. So I can imagine how extra-awful that must have been to happen at work! Poor thing.

I will say, if you haven't already, make yourself an emergency kit. I keep one in my car and a smaller version in my desk. In my car, I keep TP and wipes, spare pants and underwear, a towel and plastic bags. In my desk at work I keep some incontinence pads and spare underwear in case of a dire emergency. I've needed to use my incontinence pads once, too - blood started dripping out of me one day (fissure I think) and I couldn't get it to stop, so I was very happy to have those pads handy! You will hopefully not need to use your emergency kit, but believe me, if you do need it you'll be very glad to have it. Good luck and I hope you're doing better!

I known this is old but I want to tell you I am a 28 year old wife and mother of 2. I often miss out on my kids activities because I've had an accident. Urgency is a huge issue with me as well as blood. I often wonder if I'm the only person who has urgency issues like me...it's often daily that i have an accident...if it's at home it's not terrible i can strip down and shower and throw my pants in the washer on sanitary...however I sometimes have them while at the store or while out to eat. It's embarrassing and i just feel like a gross human. Who at my age has accidents in public?!?

I see you're starting Remicade. I hope it works great for you!

Oh i haven't updated my signature yet...i was on Remicade for 2 years with great results but after I became oregnant istarted having severe allergic reactions to it (hives in my throat and large hives around my mouth) i switched to humira which I was doing well on until after my daughter was born...I've slowly taken a turn for the worse.

I'm 35 and this has happened to me several times over the last few years. Urgency has always been a problem for me, it feels like wind coming on and then before I know it in running. Only sometimes I'm holding on so tight if I move its all coming out. It makes me feel terrible and I often end up crying about it.

Its always happened at home luckily for me, and if I was out I think I would want the ground to eat me whole. I thought this was only happening to me but being here has made me realise it isn't. It doesn't make it easier though. Sending you massive hugs xxxxxxx

Urgency for years led to me developing such a strong sphincter that my colorectal surgeon was shocked. Hahaha! (talk about a tight ass! Hahahaha!!)

2thFairy, you succeeded at giving me something to smile about. Lol

This is one of the most frustrating things... I'm 36 years old and I crap my pants!!!
Like other said, make yourself an emergency kit. I keep extra scrubs and undies in my locker at work. I keep clothes in my car and I have an old plastic bowel that I keep under the passenger seat, because yes.... I have had to pull over and use it! I work in an ER and recently had an incident where I lost control, but my patient was critical and I couldn't just leave her... I got in contact with one of the other nurses and had to explain why even though she was busy I needed her help. Thankfully I work with a great group of people, and I am very open about having crohns. Some of them know my locker combo and will just go get my emergency bag if I tell them I'm having issues. The biggest thing that bother me is the few times I have not been able to go to the bathroom and clean up because I don't want to put the health of my patient at risk. Just hate having it in my undies and waiting for relief. Not much fun....
