Hey everyone, I had a small bowel resection 5 weeks ago and I just was wondering if anyone who has had a successful surgery made any changes to their diet afterwards. I'm wondering about Paleo, SCD, gluten/dairy free options or just eating 'whole' foods and cutting out processsed and high sugar foods. The doctor was very happy with how my surgery went, I'm on Remicade as well and will continue with that, just looking for opinions now that I'm working with healthy guts!!

Thanks in advance! :)

I didn't have to particularly tailor my diet at all after surgery. I just avoided particularly spicy food - but only because I knew that was a particular trigger for me. A year after surgery, I'm pretty much eating what I like. The only thing that causes me problems is too much alcohol, now and again...

No I didn't make any changes to my diet after surgery, I just continued with medication. My surgery was 14 years ago and I'm still in remission. I don't see any harm in eating healthier though. If your resection removed part of your ileum then you'll want to start having blood work done to check for any vitamin deficiencies. For me I don't really absorb B12 so I get injections now and I supplement Iron and D3 as well since those were also low. Hope you have a very long/forever remission! :D

I went paleo a few months after surgery and I am going on meds and may have another surgery soon. Now I'm on a low residue diet.
