Okay, a week on prednisone, I did the bland diet thing, and I need to eat more since I am loosing weight. So, what do you do now? I am a newly diagnosed Crohns person. Can I just start adding foods? Or what...I thought I'd start with adding boost plus to my diet for added calories...But, I thought you all would know better...If I eat any more chicken and rice...I'll sprout feathers:) Thanks all! Sue

Yes, I have Ensure (like the taste better) always on hand, great for us crohnies! Eating soft bananas, sweet potato, and oatmeal if you can tolerate it, I love it. Use rice milk or just no dairy, that causes pain.

I am in a minor flare too, stems from a medium flare, but being careful what I eat. Try to avoid sugar. BTW applesauce is good for you and is a natural binder. All I can think of in the safe soft stuff for now. Hope you like these foods.

When I was trying to gain weight, I'd do things like add dry skim milk powder and parmesan cheese to my mashed potatoes.

Drinks like Boost and Ensure are good, but like all pre-packaged products tend to be expensive. Unless portability is an issue, I'd look into making your own smoothies and shakes from fresh, natural ingredients.

Yeh - I am on the Ensure, I get it on prescription (NHS) and as I have a pre-pay it only costs me £10 per month for all my meds, but I understand that Ensure is rather pricey... it's a tough one - I don't know what I would do without the ensure and I am losing weight at the rate of about a kilo a week now....

It's a tired old line, but I think we all have to find what works for us - I saw another thread where someone was totally creased up by sweet potatoes - trial and error I suppose.

Good luck and keep us posted.

when i lost weight, i started to eat avocados regularly, and bread dipped in olive oil. i've gained back ten pounds of the twenty-five that i lost when i was really sick. i also started to do yoga and lift really light weights, that also helped with the weight gain.

I had to gain weight back ater the surgeries I had. I understand that you get sick of chicken and rice!! I remeber that feeling also. I would be stuffed from the chicken and rice or just chicken alone and then my family forced me to drink 2 boost a day. It worked and I gained what I had to back.
