OK please forgive the million and a half questions I'm asking, honeslty before they started testing her for it I'd never even heard of Crohns! Asked our Ped GI, but I just want to know from people who actually live with the disease!

So is going on a special diet usually necessary? Do the special "chron's diets" usually entail casein or eggs? As of right now, Grier is 14 months old and has never had a bite of solid food, she's excusively on hypoallergenic formula so we don't have to watch what she eats too closely right now, but she is allergic to casein and eggs (and *possibly* a less severe allergy to wheat).

Eggs are one of the things that don't affect most crohns victims its sorta a neutral food, but a lot of recipes in cook book created with patients of IBS or crohns in mind include things that are made with eggs but there are a lot of things also that aren't it sucks your child is so young it makes it all the more complicated.

this is the diet I follow, all crohns patients are different and I have a serve reaction to starches( potatoes, bread, etc.) and sugar, so this diet works good for me but every patient is different.

Hey Aly,

Diet can play a huge part in crohns and not in ulcerative colitis (they discovered through research) yet they are both inflammatory bowel disease.

I have a problem with eggs and can only tolerate scrambled or poached occasionally. They just seem to shoot through my system double quick!

I have asthma and several skin problems and along with my gut triggering these both flare when a food doesnt agree with me. So far I have had to cut out all E numbers (food colourants and additives), benzoates and anything that is high in salicylate (which is related to aspirin in the food and drug chain) along with gluten and dairy.

This means I am down to all non processed foods, can have meat and fish but am limited to my fruit and veg too.

I also have elemental 028 extra for when my crohns flares or I just cant face eating. Like Grier my elemental is hypoallergenic and I feel tons better when on it. Have come to the conclusion I am better off using elemental most of my day now and just eat one small meal half way through the day.

As already posted diet is a very individual thing for each crohns sufferer and you will find as you go along what works for Grier. They will probably suggest very basic bland foods initially and build from there.

Keep us posted on how you are doing as a family with this one Aly. It can be a huge emotional strain trying to face eating and moreso when its a toddler who cant really tell you in detail whats going on. Trust your instinct as a mum and dont doubt yourself!

Thinking of you all. ((hugs))
