So as some of u may know I am going to uni in sept. As I have CD I am able to apply for a DLA (Disabled learners allowence) Which should supply me with equipment to help me with my course. I have been told by the university that I should be able to have a lap top so that I can work from my room if I cannot go to lectures etc.
So tomoro I have the needs assessment which is an informal interview which aparently takes 1-2 hours do discuss my needs.
Has anyone else ever had anything like this before?
Im worried that they will think I am wasting their time as alot of my problems are more to do with the way I live than the way I learn and tht is all they can help me with. I guess they must get people like me all the time, but the form I just had to fill out was all about if I have arms and legs and stuff. :/

i dun think so, i mean crohns is a serious thing, i no last yr in school when i had to miss a lot of time my teachers made exceptions and stuff so they will prolly take u srsly and help you however they can. i mean there are diseases a lot worse than crohns but crohns is still a disease that makes you sick, so all should be good, and good luck with that holls!!^-^

You have every right to attend the assessment... no mistake about that.
Shantel has said it all really... but I personally think that "continency issues" might swing it in your favour.

Hi everyone, so I had my meeting today, it was alot better than I was expecting!
The lady was very nice and helpful and thought of alot of things that could help me. So she is guna write up a report suggesting what I need and then it is up to student finance if they give it to me or not. So anyway this is what she is suggesting:
A laptop-so that I can work in my room if I am too ill to go to lectures.
A Printer
A Digital voice Recorder- so tht if i need to go out to lessons for the loo i dnt miss stuff, or if i feel to tired to write stuff down I will remember my ideas.
A lap desk- so I can work somewhere comfortable like sofa or bed
Plus they are paying the extra cost for my en suite room, giving me an allowence for books, photocopying and stationary.
So yer, im rly pleased with how that went :)

Wow i wish i could get that.... now that i think about it i might see what i can swing over here. i'll have to look into it, just not sure where to start.... Any ideas
 
yeah i just started back in school..... took me 10 years after i graduated HS but i'm back so its a start
 
yea lap desks sound very handy i have to hold my lappy up after having it sit on my bed for a bit because the fan starts to work real hard to try and cool it and it over heats. i should make a makeshift one!! lol just use a piece of wood >.< lol

And Mark, congrats on going back to school, I went back after taking some years off too, as I wrote in another thread, you tend to get more money when you are older, if you need/want it that is!
 
HEY Spoonie, I just noticed you history and what do ya mean Pirates are the enemy. How could you say that about a fellow Michigander.LOL
