Distended Stomach or Abdominal Strain?

A couple of weeks back I was at the gym, and I was doing the row machine, and noticed my stomach started hurting really bad. I have had Crohn's Disease for about ten years now, and this pain was not recognizable as a Crohn's pain, so I just kept powering through it. I stood up because of the pain, thought I had might have been dehydrated, drank some water, and went back to the row machine. The pain grew, I went to the sauna, thinking I might be having a spam of some sort. Decided to go home because of the pain, spent all night at home, eventually went to the hospital for treatment. The doctor on duty, said that I had strained my abdominal muscle.

Now, randomly, my stomach will hurt like it did when I pulled the ab muscle. But, I notice that when I evacuate my waste (poop), the pain subsides, along with passing gas through my rear-end (farting) or by burping. The only time the pain really comes back is when I stress my abdominal muscles.

Could this be a distended stomach or a long recovery for an abdominal strain? Because this has never happened in my life. But, with Crohn's I know that overtime, anything is on the table.

If it is either/or, any ideas for home remedies?

Thanks so much!
Aaron

Definitely take it easy for a while. You could develop a hernia. It might be worth it to go to a med supply store and get an abdominal binder. It will help support your abdominal wall.

I definitely will afidz. We don't want a hernia to develop. But, you think it is an abdominal strain and not a distended stomach?

Thanks for the information!

if your dealing with bloating, it could definitely contribute to discomfort. I have done a lot of research on hernias because I have had so many (or one really, it just keeps recurring). The fact that you have Crohn's alone puts you at a higher risk for getting one because your body doesn't heal the way it is supposed to. If you lay down and gently cough while looking at your stomach, look for areas that bulge when you cough. A bulge might not necessarily be a hernia, but that could be where it is strained and where you want to keep an eye on.

I've had Crohn's.Disease since 1973, cpl resections. Based solely on my own "personal experience" I've learned that the best & safest "gas relief"[both exits! ;-) ] is =Simethicone, a mild mint tasting soft chew tab! And, it doesn't interfere with other meds! Not too costly, and its over the counter. (this my 1st post as a newbe here !)...
