Hi all. Sorry, this might be a bit of a random off the mark one..

Does anyone notice a distinct smell to your (eh, hem) poo when having a flare up? I'm sure I have noticed over the years that mine does. Like a really earthy sort of off smell. Not like 'normal' poo. Is it just me?!

This has bugged me ever since I was diagnosed in 2002 but have never got round to asking my specialist nurse!

And sorry this is such a rank thread! :yfrown:

Yes there is a distinctive smell, at least for me. It sorta is a sour smell or some say vinegar smell. I remember a nurse telling me years ago she could spot a crohnie a mile away, the smell gives them away.:p What does yours smell like? yeah I know Tmi lol.

It's only when I'm having a flare up though, not always. Is it the same for you?

It's hard to explain, it's more like a stench! Sour, earthy, reallllly old vegetables maybe? But very distinctive, it's like a warning: 'this is not just a bad day, this is a flare up, go see your GP!' Lol!

What's Tmi? I'm a newbie here

i havent actually had a diagnosis as of yet so im not sure i can call it a flare up.... i jsut know that when my stomach if off then theres always one particular smell. usually lasts a few weeks or more depends really

Ha, tmi means Too much information...embarrassing for others  Yes the smelly times are usually only when I am flaring which has been lately.

Sounds like you have some sort of IBD... let us know what the results are! :hang:

I know mine definitely had a distinct sulphury smell to it. It may have been the C. diff if I'd had it since I was diagnosed.

Definitely!!! Mine reminds me of baby poop. Same consistency as well :/ LOL! That's when I refuse to use a public loo!!

I don't get the option of avoiding loo's... I had to use the grottiest train station loo the other day, but what choice did I have?!

Crohn's can (literally) be a pain in the bum sometimes!!
