My daughter has been complaining that shes been getting dizzy when she walks around. I think it goes away when she lays down. This has been on and off for a while. Anyone have any idea as to what might be causing this and what l should be asking the GP to check? I can't help but worry as her dad has a brain tumor.

Her dizziness could be something simple like dehydration. Make sure she is drinking 2 ltr a day. It could also be a medication side effect.

Check with the doctor. He/she will know the standard tests that should be run.

Hope she feels better soon.

My son has occasional dizziness as well. I really believe his is dehydration. He gets occasional headaches too. Have her lay down, sip some gatorade and ask her to try and up her water intake.

I can understand why you would be concerned especially after her dads diagnosis. I would call her dr and discuss your concerns. It will probably help you both feel better about the situation. ((((Hugs))))

Could also be related to anemia. If she looks pale, has sleep issues, concentration issues, headaches, thumping chest, shortness of breath (amongst other symptoms), it could be the case. If it is dehydration, the posts above should fix it in short order. Does she have regular blood work done? If not, it could be worth looking into he iron and B12 levels. Most cases of anemia are pretty easy to control.

I don't think its dehydration as she had a lot of fluids. Anemia that could be possible as her iron levels are always on the low side. Last blood test was done a week ago, we see the GI this week so l'll know more in a few days.

Reading some of my old posts this started in late 2013 , 2 months after starting Imuran. It usually lasts a day and then goes away for awhile. I'll have to mention this to the GI.

In addition to what the others have said about dehydration - make sure she's not only getting enough fluids, but that she's also getting electrolytes. For me personally, I tend to lose sodium really easily when I'm having diarrhea, and no amount of drinking fluids (not even electrolyte drinks) will replace my lost sodium. Losing too much sodium makes me very dizzy and light-headed. In the past I've resorted to having a teaspoon or two of soy sauce to get the sodium I need. It sounds gross, but it works - that stuff is really high in sodium and it makes me feel almost instantly better. You may want to give her something like that (if she doesn't want soy sauce, canned broth is also very high in sodium) to see if it helps. Good luck!

Does she feel like the room is spinning or like she feels like fainting? Anemia and dehydration are most likely to cause the lightheaded faint feeling whereas inner ear problems and other things can cause the spinning sensation?

Sending hugs! Would definitely see the doctor so you can get to the bottom of it and avoid further worry.

She said it feels like she's lightheaded.

Saw the GI today and her iron levels are at the low end of normal. First thing that came to his mind was dehydration. The weather has been very hot here, so l hope that's all it was.

She did have her blood pressure checked but at the time she wasn't dizzy.

I have a machine at home but l didn't think to check it the other day.

Try this.

take blood pressure sitting.
have lie down for five minutes take blood pressure (while lie down)
have stand up really quickly take blood pressure (be really to catch)

Catherine l tried this today, there wasn't much change at all. The only thing l noticed was her heart rate went up.

We'll have to go see the GP.

Saw the GP today. Tested blood pressure was normal. She said if the iron levels are low this could cause dizziness. She also mentioned this could be caused from the Imuran, as the dizziness started 2 months after starting Imuran. She didn't have the recent blood results so she's faxed the GI for the results as she wants to see them for herself. If the levels are on the low side she said she wants to try an infusion to see if that stops her dizziness, otherwise based on my husbands history she'll refer us to a specialist. So answers yet.

I struggled with dizzyness for years, eventually i started taking magnesium and calcium pills and i had a very low vitamin d level, ithink it was 32. I took 10,000 iu vit d until my lvl was 150 and havent been dizzy since. I still take magnesium, calcium and a multi vit with iron.
