December of 2010 through March of 2011 I kept getting infections, I still believe the antibiotics to this day caused me to have my first signs of Crohns disease before I was diagnosed in December of 2011 after being constantly sick. Now December of 2011 I had pink eye, February I had a UTI, and now I think I have a yeast infection (don't know for sure yet) and I'm going to wait a few days just to make sure so I don't jump on antibiotics again right away. I'm so sick of getting infections all the time and being sick :( I followed the doctors instructions when I was on nitrofurantoin for 7 days and I didn't eat ANY YEAST products so as to not get a yeast infection! I followed those instructions completely no cheating! I still feel like I have a yeast infection starting up right after my period was over 6 days ago :( This sucks!

I can't really speak to medications being the cause of Crohns (I have not heard that before), but I get a ton of yeast infections from certain antibiotics I take to treat other infections (abscesses). Are you on antibiotics now? If you are, then that is probably the cause of the yeast infection. Also, there are other infection type things that people with Crohns can be mroe predisposed to, like abscesses. That is not uncommon. It all totally sucks. Hang in there.

I am on flagyl one pill a day, yes very unusual but I am a complexed case. I do get yeast infections from time to time. I find if you reduce your sugar intake it will stop feeding the yeast. I get bladder infections but they are from kidney stones developing which I have had about 6 so far. I get canker sores too. What other meds are you on?

Keep us updated.

I'm only on Lialda for my crohns, the bentyl was only a small prescription filled by the doc at the ER to treat my intestine pains and spasms for a few more days. I take a probiotic once every other day because I can't afford the 2X a day every day habit. They gave me ultrum which I never filled because it was for my chest pain and I figure since they didn't find anything and I'm broke the Bentyl should help pain in intestines and rest of body AND my spasms lol.

I've had plenty of UTIs, and at this point I think I just have a permanent mild one :( Also a few days ago my GP confirmed that I have not only a yeast infection but bacterial vaginosis. I'm not sure if my Crohn's is to blame or not, but I know for sure that my personal hygiene and cleanliness are borderline perfect so I don't know what the deal is. I have always followed all the rules, never douche, always pee after sex, wash only with plain soap and water, blah blah blah...

Anyways, I hope everything clears up for you. These infections are a total pain right?

I posted a thread about chronic yeast infections a few days ago in the ladies subforum. Yes, I have also suffered from different skin infections, pink eye, bronchitis, sinusitis, cold sores, styes in the eyes, strep throat, flu, and a non IBD related intestinal infection (epiploic appendigitis) all since starting 6MP 6 months ago. So yes, we Crohnies get lots of "secondary" infections. Ick!

I get a lot of UTI's. Not quite sure why.

As for the yeast infection you got. Every time I take a course of antibiotics, I always get a yeast infection. My GI usually prescribes the antibiotic with Diflucan that I can take when I get the yeast infection. I don't think it matters if you eat yeast or not! I could be wrong though...

I hope you are feeling better! :)

I got diagnosed with crohns in aug 2010 after that it was monthly yeast infections until I got my IUD taken out. Then I was infection free for a couple of months then I strated remicade and the day after my first infusion I got another yeast infection. Then the week after I got an ear infection.

When I first started 6mp I also got several sinus infections. Things eventually settle down as my body adjusts to new changes and new medications.

When I was at my sickest, my doctors actually blamed my diarrehea on the kidney infection. I have had so many UTI's in the past two years I never know when I don't have one! Hang in there!

I know this is an old post but in case any of you all are still having yeast issues. I HIGHLY recommend Jarrow Fem Dophilus. I tried 5 other probiotics before finding this one. My yeast issues were so bad after crohn's diagnosis I was on wkly Diflucan for over a year. Haven't had one since starting this probiotic.

I heard the femdophilus is a good one. Also there is one called 50 billion vaginal support by renew life that is suppose to be very good...

Like everyone already wrote, it is really common. I have a constant candida infection. I take probiotics when it's really bad, and antifungals. Don't like taking those unless symptoms are the worst, because it can cause liver failure long term. It's horrid! Hope you feel better soon! Not sure if you have the same in the US, but for urinary tract infections, Ural works awesome for me. Anyway, best wishes xo

Hi Erika,

I just ordered these probiotics to try. I have been having a very hard time trying to clear a recurring yeast infection. I am on cimzia q4-weeks for Crohn's disease. When I went to every 2-weeks on cimzia, I feel like the yeast infection will never go away.

Just wondering if you still use this probiotic and if it still helps you keep the yeast infections gone!!?

I really feel like i can't clear this yeast infection because of the biologic I'm on.

Thanks
Megan
