Do you get tired of eating?

Don't get me wrong--I enjoy food, especially after being on a liquid elemental diet. And I am grateful for the food that I do get to eat (including some Thanksgiving dinner foods), but I am TIRED OF CHEWING!

I used to be overweight and I would never have thought that I would be tired of eating or chewing, but I am. Perhaps it is because I am getting tired of rice products--cakes, crackers, pancakes, porridge, cereal, rice-rice and puffs--or because I need to eat every few hours, or because I still measure most of my food to make sure I am getting the proper nutrition, or because I need to plan everything that I am going to put in my mouth.

Whatever the reason, I am tired of it.

And I know that there are some people on this forum who haven't eaten anything for a long time and who would be glad to be tired of food. I'm just saying that I am surprised that I am. Having IBD sure changes your relationship with food.

Anyone else tired of eating?

I hate eating. I used to love food. I still do, I just don't like eating it.
sometimes its hard to chew because I'm nauseous or because the tmj is acting up.
sometimes I can't even being myself to put food into my mouth.
it's a bummer. whenever I feel hungry (I do right now), my biggest wish is that the hunger pains would just go away so I don't have to try to eat. I wish I didn't have to eat.

And I'm fat. can't lose the weight. When I can't eat the only way you can tell is from my blood counts.

I feel this way all of the time!! Eating has become a chore for me. Im always anxious that im going to get sick, so its often times "better" for me to not eat. Then come the hunger pains and more intense nausea, then the acid, making it impossible to eat even if i wanted to!
You're definitely not alone in this one, and I understand how extremely frusterating it is, especially when my family and friends keep pushing the issue. "you really should eat something, youre going to make yourself sick" "just take a bite", so then not only are you hungry and irriateted, in pain, and you cant get people to leave you alone about it!
Ive become a huge fan of greek yogurt recently, because you dont have to chew, it tastes really good, and it fills me up for a while.
keep your chin up family! We are all in this together!!

I love eating! Pizza, Burgers, REALLY spicy foods.. Sometimes I will have a big ol' stein of beer, with a 2" thick Club steak, asparagus, broccoli. The best is some wicked hot chicken wings with Lil' smokies in BBQ sauce, and some more Beer!! MMMMmmmm!

Then I wake up, reality sets in, and MAYBE I will eat a simple sandwich. No mayo, No lettuce, No American cheese, Jalapenos...

Eating sucks arse! I wouldn't if I could break the addiction!

yeah I'm sitting here at my desk STARVING and nauseous eating saltines. W00t! sigh

I have definitely changed my relationship with food. I used to eat for pleasure. Now I have to make myself eat a small meal/snack every 2-3 hours and it gets old. I used to put down half a large pizza in one sitting. Now I'm lucky to get in two slices before I start feeling sick. I can't eat normal-sized meals anymore without feeling sick for hours. Then the sickness passes suddenly and I'm hungry but nauseous. I choke down a few pretzels or crackers and try to make the hunger-nausea go away. I never feel satisfied anymore. It's always sick or nauseous or hungry, but as soon as I eat, I'm miserable again. It sucks.

Food...bleuurgh, I want to love eating again. I really miss looking forward to eating out or special family meals.

I hated eating. HATED it. Until I found the specific carbohydrate diet SCD. It's changed my life, guys. A lot of delicious recipes that are easily digestable. have been on it for a month, and was in your shoes- bad flare, lost 15 lbs (was 107 when i left the hospital) and am happy to say that I gained 2 back, all very healthily, within this past month, getting back into remission naturally.

What you eat has a HUGE affect on how you feel!! If you nix the gluten and carbs, eat greek yogurts, only fruits and honey, chicken, fish, avacado, there's a chance you could start to like eating again.

If you're interested with my experience with the SCD diet, google "the SCD experiment." It provides deets how the diet has been working for me thus far, 1 month into it!

dahlface - I wasn't hungry at all for a long long time. I think treating my ulcer/gastritis is what started my hunger pains back up.

Thanks for replying everyone. It is good to know that other people understand what it is like to eat because it is necessary and not for enjoyment. I think that I was just getting very tired of rice. I have added quinoa to my diet, so that should help me change it up a bit. Plus my fatigue level seems worse the past two weeks. I have some lab work coming up, so I'll be getting some of my vitamin levels checked.
Thanks for the suggestion of the SCD diet, thecrohn; however, I am currently on a full elimination diet that seems to be working for me-- it is just a slow process.
May we all soon enjoy the pleasures of food again.

I use to love eating! I still love food but yes I too get tired of it. If I am tired I may not eat at all. If I have pain I usually won't eat. I rarely pig out like I use to because I dread the pain after. Crohn's has for sure changed my relationship with food!

For a second I thought I wrote this. LOL. I'm right there with ya!

Hi Larisa, I have heard of the sunlight eaters. It's not true. If pressured, most of the sunlight eaters will admit that they eat and drink "only when they absolutely must" which is a lot more often than they make it seem.

Really? Well i suspected something is not right, becouse it is really hard to believe such thing, but this man looked so convincing, anyway soon i will know if this is for sure, becouse the journalist that interviewed 'the one who feeded from the sun' said that he and his team will make some tv series about this!
Carrie, thank you for your reply ;)

:) Np. I read about a journalist who followed a woman who claimed to be a sunlight eater. She was looking worse and worse as the days passed, and she tried to do what she claims she can do. I want to say she ended up having to eat and thats when the whole 'only when necessary' thing came out.
