I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, myself, six months ago, and I was wondering: what do you do to help with the pain?

I have been recently diagnosed with IBS after scope/biopsy came back with no inflammation. However, I am still having issues with pain & episodes.

My GI prescribed Amitryptaline (sp?). I have been taking 10mg nightly since the end of August. He also prescribed Dicetel to help with the cramping but it's not working.

What type of pain do you have? I have posted a topic on this board titled "Results & Uncertainty" and I describe my pain etc.

Hey, someone from Palm Harbor! I used to live there as a kid. Nice town from what I recall.

Well, as someone with IBS and with a mention of crohns by some doctors, what personally helped me with pain was taking vitamin D3, fish oil, and avoiding grains like wheat, corn, and rice. I'm not cured, still need to eat low fiber foods, but overall much healthier than before. It's rare to have a painful flare up. Thinking about it, can't recall the last time I was in major pain. Before it was a daily problem to deal with.

best of luck in finding what works for you!

I don't know if I am actually diagnosed with IBS, but my doctor said that's what we're going to treat for, since he couldn't find any actual evidence of IBD. By pain, do you refer to cramping? I have two Rxs for this: Librax, and Hyomax. I do not take either on a regular basis - only as needed. Most of the time, they work. Although I haven't needed them much lately. I think they are both antispasmodics.
