Hi everyone- this is kind of about treatments various (but probably in the wrong spot),

Just need to update a bit on what has been happening... had a drain put in my back for a fistula from my small bowel to next to my retroperitoneal space- it has been in for 9 weeks today (not a pleasant experience at times)... and then I managed to get a psoas abscess as well which meant 2 drains for a while. Anyone else had percutaneous drains- just ask me if you need to know about them!!

All this has meant 8 admissions so far this year (usually for a week or so at a time at least) and a lot of time off work... luckily I am in a training programme with a very understanding training college...

Anyway I'm having surgery in a week and a half to remove the fistula and diseased gut, give everything a good clean out and hopefully give me a break for a while!! Had to wait for the surgery to get my steroids down and avoid a stoma too- such fun. Second resection of the year- may be open this time, laparascopic last time...how long does open surgery take to recover from??

But on the plus side I have managed to fit in a trip to see U2 this week with my husband for his 30th birthday- a bright spot in an otherwise crappy year. They did offer surgery a week earlier but I have to say that I'll live with the drain for another week so I can give hubby the dream that he has had for the past 15years (he loves U2) and they don't come to NZ very often.

So even though it has been rough I appreciate everything my family, friends and colleagues have done and I'm hoping there is a light at the end of the tunnel...

Cheers,

Kaz
