Ok I just had surgery and my bowels are still asleep. I know if I eat or drink I can get really sick but what about ice chips? Can I have unlimited ice chips while they are asleep? What can really go wrong?

Ice cubes and chewing gum really help wake up the bowels. So does sitting on the loo.

Walking around is also a good help to get them going.

I might be wrong, but I did not think unlimited ice chips were allowed. Wouldn't that be the same as unlimited water essentially?

I thought I was given a sponge at the end of a stick that I could use to dab some water on my mouth, but other then that was not allowed food or drink.

Once again I may be totally wrong and hopefully others can chip in! When in doubt you can always as a nurse.

They are encouraging the sponge and water but said sucking on ice cubes is not the same as sipping straight water. Logically it seems the same but I don't know.
