This is as much a vent as anything else!

I have always struggled to drink enough fluids. I don't ever seem to feel 'thirst'. I mean I get a dry mouth, but it seems to be unrelated to the amount of water I drink! And it doesn't make me feel I ought to go and get a drink in the way that when I'm hungry it makes me go and get something to eat.

So left to my own devices, I would probably drink 1 or 2 glasses of water, maybe 3 coffees, and that's it. So I have been trying to drink to a schedule- like a glass in the morning before work, one when I get home at lunch, and so on. So I drink at least 4 glasses plus the coffee. But now I can't stop going to the toilet! I drink a glass and 30 minutes later I'm bursting (and it's extremely light).

Anyway, does that mean I'm drinking too much? Or is it just my body needs time to readjust to the amount I'm drinking?

Yes i'd say it's quite normal, you're just not used to it. As long as you finish the glass, it's not vital to have it all in one go. Maybe you'd be more comfortable sipping over a period of time.

I've read before that if/when you start upping your water intake you will go to the loo more but that this will subside after a while as your body gets used to the increase of fluids.
I'm the opposite to you. I usually feel thirsty and drink quite a bit though I can't drink coffee anymore :(

So I just need to push through it? I tried sipping the water before, I keep a water bottle at my desk at work, but I'm never at my desk to drink it!

Usually when i'm on prednisone i get dehydrated- i dont know why i'm afraid to drink-I actually do know i have this theory that the water will stay in my body...

bushydougie, if youre missing coffee have you tried Nescafe decaff, tastes the same as their regular coffee. Think they do decaf in starbucks as well. I find I can tolerate them whereas normal tea/coffee will kill my stomach straight after drinking

Thanks Rygon - I have tried some decaf but at the same time I think what's the point! The best part of coffee for me was the caffeine ;) expresso was my favourite.
Luckily I also love peppermint tea :)

I was unable to drink coffee for the vast majority of my time spent working at Starbucks! Even decaf brewed coffee sets me off, so I don't think the caffeine is the only problem for me. I can handle decaf lattes to some extent. I think the milk and the smaller coffee content helps.

I personally drink a ridiculous amount of water and still feel thirsty all the time. Thanks, Sjogren's Syndrome!

I am not a thristy person for water either...but I can drink liquids (soda, fruity water, etc.) as I was down the mountains of food I am eating on Prednesone. I did read somewhere that water is good for crohn's. I am not sure i understand why. Wouldn't it just make for more BM's and D? That can't be good. Maybe that is why I feel so tired all the time...dehydration. I'm with you about the coffee thing. I love my iced coffee! I need it in the morning to start my engines! I just have a small one though...since it does bother me...

I used to be very bad about drinking much of anything. I had to force myself to starting drinking water and stick with it.

I still don't drink as much as others may, but I'm up to at least 1.5 liters per day. While at work, I fill a bottle in the morning and sip from it throughout the day. I also mix in one of those Benefiber singles packages to help with a boost of soluble fiber.

(I beg to differ about the whole "you can't even taste it" part, but you get used to it after awhile)

So...is a lot of water good for Crohn's and if so why? Is it because we become easily dehydrated or because water makes the actual Crohn's better? I just feel like it will make me have more D.

Yes, your body just needs time to adjust.

I don't like water and can go for days without drinking it. But I do drink fresh vegetable juice every day, so I am getting water from veggies that way.

I have recently started to force myself to drink a litre every day, as I have found it REALLY helps UC. I scull it down over the period of 30 minutes, just to get it over and done with.

In the beginning, I only had to have one small glass of water and I was peeing masses on an ongoing basis. But over the last few months my body has adjusted and the frequency of peeing has settled right down. I also read up on this and apparently it is quite normal.

hydrotherapy.

we have a water cooler at my work. i try to drink at the minimum 32 oz of fresh water daily. its important to not drink water that has been chlorinated. chlorinated water causes dysbiosis(microbial imbalances on or within the body) and dehydration. your body is mostly water, therefore it is important to maintain the quality and harmony of this water within you. one of the main causes of disease is dehydration. when you already have a disease, any undue stress and dehydration furthers and exacerbates your condition. so drink plenty of water to improve and maintain your health. just this simple action has helped me tremendously. it was difficult at first, with all the purging and going to the bathroom, but my body got over it.

I find if I have a bottle or cup of water with me - even walking around at work - I will drink more...If i just leave a bottle at my desk, I tend not to drink it as much as I am away from my desk a lot at work.

yeh with D, plus possibly blood loss and your body trying to repair itself you use up quite a lot of water.
I do enjoy the taste of water, but if i want a hot drink it will be either green tea, peppermint etc. Pukka herbs make some good low caffine drinks. Im currently drinking caromile and vanilla.

Theres always drinks like fresh pomegranite, lemon all over ice. Or smoothies (if you can tolerate that.

Dont forget you can get more water into your body via foods (cucumber and melon 1st spring to mind)

I think you have more problems with not drinking than drinking chlorinated water. I do think the chlorination in water scare is blown way out of proportion. Ive never felt ill from drinking it.

Also remember when you feel thirsty you are already starting to dehydrate, so its a good idea to drink a little before this starts to happen.

The colour of your pee is a good indication

The main problem with decaff is the way they extract the caffeine.

The healthiest extraction is by water. However, water extraction is time consuming and can be expensive, so very few brands use it. You will pay more for this coffee.

The most common extraction method is via the use of manmade artificial chemicals.

Dandelion herbal coffee is a good alternative to coffee. And Chai tea or herbal tea is good alternative to standard tea.
