duodenoscope and colonoscopy no anasthetic

Hi everyone, I've had these 2 procedures done twice before but I was a 10 and 13 those times so they were done under general anaesthetic.
I'm now 19 and at an adult hospital (no general anaesthetic for this now!) and have recently been ill so I'm having an "MOT" as the doctor described it haha.

So, my worry is mainly with the duodenoscope, I'm worried it will be distressing having the tube down my throat when I'm awake I've been told there will be lots of relaxants and pain killer though so I won't remember it, but I'm still a bit disconcerted :/

Has anyone had this procedure not under general anaesthetic?
and if so, what were your feelings about it and how did it go?

I had a gastroscopy, to look at the stomach, some years ago and didn't remember a thing about it. Express your concerns and request they make sure you are well sedated, it'll be fine.

Thank you for your reply, yeah I hope to be totally out of it! And yes they said I won't remember. Thank you I feel a bit more reassured now I know someone else has done it

Hi I had the gastroscope done using twilight which isn't GA. I don't remember a thing just woke up in recovery. I didn't have anything for the colonoscopy and it wasn't too bad it's just the thought of it more than anything. I would strongly request sedation for the gastroscope and don't let them talk you out of it!!! I'm due to have both done on thursday and have been assured lots of sedation will be used!!! good luck for yours

My doctor said sedation and pain relief will be used so that's good, and I'm not too squeamish so I hope they both go okay They said if at any point I'm distressed they will stop it and try at a different date, but I'd rather just power through and get it over with!
I just googled the twilight anaesthesia and it sounds like what my doctor was saying, hey said I'll be responsive but very sleepy and relaxed and won't remember anything, which is good.
