Has anyother Crohnies here had a dvt? I had one about 7 months ago and I am starting to have symptoms of having another in my lower right calf. I really dont want to show up at the ER if its just later complication of the first. Is is common for a DVT to reoccur? Any info would be helpful! Thank you! Oh an by the way I have been off blood thinners for a month and a half since I have no medical coverage and could not afford the warfarin clinic visits to keep an eye on my INR.

I had a DVT about 15 years ago, and I would definitely go back to the ER if I was showing symptoms of one (and that is with my pulmonary vein being completely clotted and being very low risk for significant damage). When I had my DVT it was misdiagnosed as something that wasn't dangerous and as a result I waited a long time and by the time it was finally caught it had almost reached my lungs (from my right calf). I wouldn't even come close to risking that again.

Also as far as I know, it's almost certainly not some sort fo complication from the first. Once a DVT is broken up, it's gone for good usually, especially after 7 months.

Definitely get it checked out. I had a DVT in my right calf the summer of '10 and spent a week in the hospital. Stayed on coumadin for 6 months and came off of it the first of Jan '11. Feb 28th, '11, I had double pulmonary embolisms and a pulmonary infarction. After many tests, it was finally determined that I had developed a bloodclotting disorder called lupus anticoagulant disorder which was brought on by the Crohn's. I'm on coumadin for life now.

Lorimichelle, please please please do NOT stop the blood thinners. I don't care if you have to go out and steal them but you must not stop them without prior consultation from your doctor or a haematologist.

Following surgery for a perforated ilieum where I almost died, I had a DVT in my left calf that ended in a pulmonary embolism in my right lung. I almost died a second time. .

Since then I have had a few DVT scares. I am now on Warfarin for life and as well as my monthly GI visits I also have blood work including my INR done every 6-8 weeks.

Please look after yourself and let us know how you get on.

I just cant afford it.....I will just need to suck it up and go to the ER!!!!!
And coumadin never really worked. I will most likely be on lovenox for life because my Crohns has given me an absorption issues...

Don't be nonchalant about it. You must be very proactive. I almost died because I didn't take the DVT that I had earlier as seriously as I should have. Blood clots to the lungs are deadly and you have no warning that it's fixing to strike. They are also incredibly painful and if it doesn't kill you straight off then it takes time to recoup from it. I was on temp disability for 3 months before I could go back to work.

It is 4thousand dollars per month of Lovenox.... I made sure to let my hematologist know I was stopping. It was almost 6 months and thats the usual treatment for the first DVT. I know how serious this could be but the is no way I can get the meds. If I go to the ER and get admitted they will most likely push medicade to help me.. I hope. My hematologist does have samples but that is not going to help it I am on them for life ya know... I am awaiting disability's decision because I really need the medicade.

Good luck and just try to be as vigilant as possible. My hematologist told me that I would probably make ER visits that I didn't need but it was better to be save than sorry. What was wrong with taking coumadin? That has to be cheaper than the lovenox. I had been on coumadin for 6 months with the DVT and now I am back on it forever because of the embolisms. They always use lovenox on me in conjunction with the coumadin when I was hospitalized both times but I maintain using only coumadin.

Coumadin does not absorb correctly because of my Crohns. I tried it and never could get a steady INR. And to visit every week or 2 for the INR check I cannot afford. And the machine to check yourself is sooooooo expensive...
