My daughter is 16 and really really wants to get her ears pierced. She's on Remicade though and I'm not sure if it's ok. I will, of course, check with her GI but I was wondering if anyone had experience with piercings and Remicade?
Do they take longer to heal? Get infected?
Thanks!

My daughter is on Remicade but hasn't had any piercings. We have had to ask about a lot....dental work being one of the things...her doc says just schedule two weeks after infusion. I wouldn't think piercing would be any more dangerous but would make triple quadruple sure that place is reputable and sterile and that DD takes fastidious care of the piercings. I am just a mom though so yeah better to check with GI.

After I had been on Remicade & Aza for about 6 months, I got a cartilage piercing from a very reputable piercing & tattoo place. They used all sterile equipment and I was very careful to clean it frequently according to their instructions. I didn't have any problems that I know of (it was sore for quite awhile but that seems to be a normal experience) and even when it did become irritated & infected 6 months later, it cleared up after I started soaking it again. I was even able to leave it in for my next scope but had to remove it for actual surgery with no complications. Hope this helps!

I've had two lip piercings and two fairly large tattoos while on remicade for years. Just follow the instructions and clean it properly and make sure you do yourresearchand go to a very reputable location. I didn't have any problems at all.

Sarah isn't on Remicade but rather Imuran and is in remission. She has had piercings and tattoos and has had no issues.

Dusty. :)
