Elemental Diet Suggestions?

My doctors suggested that I go on an elemental diet (which I have done before but it was just like pure torture) and I was wondering if anyone knew any elemental diet drinks that were gluten free and dairy free? I am aware of Splash and EleCare,but they are just not palatable at all. I am currently on Humira and it usually controls my flares but I am having a really bad flare up and if we can't get it under control with my diet we will have to move on to Methotrexate and I really do not want any more immunosuppressants.

Hi sera,
I've been on the elemental diet nonstop for quite a few months now, and although it was hard at first Ive gottten used to it. I use the peptamen 1.5 formula which is gluten and lactose free. The only issue is cost It's around 300.00 for 24 cans, so you would have to check to see if your insurance covered it. They aren't exactly delicious, but you can add Hershey's syrup which makes them taste better. I like the elemental diet because it has no side effects whatsoever, so although it's hard you have one less thing to worry about while on it. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear that you are having such a bad flare. Check out this thread http://www.crohnsforum.com/showthread.php?t=23607 , in the Enteral Nutrition section of the Treatment Sub-forum for info about different types of formulas. I used unflavored VivonexPlus. It is lactose and gluten-free, but it is quite expensive and does not taste very good. However, it put me in remission, so it was worth it.
