Hi everyone just wanted tonoif youget it regularly but i seem to be experiancing alot more gas than i usually do, was justwondering if anyone knows why this happens

I get really gassy with certain foods... and it will last 12-18 hrs sometimes. Actually most of my CD related pain is caused by gas.

Hi porter89xxx,
I too get a lot of gas with my Crohn's. I was told a number of years ago by my doctor that a lot of times it is when a small piece of food gets stuck in the lining of your intestine, and as it is breaking down, it releases the gas - as it isn't travelling through your system like it should be, you get a lot more gas than you otherwise would. I don't know if that is true or not, but maybe someone else here can elaborate. It's not a pleasent feeling, but after time you can tell which foods cause you to become gassy, and you can then avoid them in the future.

Good health and best of luck.

I've always had alot of gas, but seem to have even more now that I have a bag (or maybe I just notice it more since I now have to burp the thing to get it out). Doesn't seem to matter what I eat, I always have gas. I'm just glad it doesn't get stuck and cause me pain anymore. Plus, the kids think it's amusing to hear farts coming from my stomach....lol

One thing that has struck me over the last 10 years or so (this is a good 8 years before I had any overt GI pain) is how many MORE foods cause me gas. I was actually a vegetarian for 5 years about a decade ago, but gradually I couldn't eat broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables, then I couldn't eat any stone fruits, like nectarines, then it was apples, and even fresh BASIL! And don't even bring a bowl of hummus, one of my old favorites, into the room with me! Seems like this has got to indicate either a change in digestive enzymes, a change in gut flora, or both. But WHY, and is it related to my current pain condition, that only began 14 some months ago? Another thing I've noted (and talk about embarrassing) is that I REALLY have to "bear down" these days to pass gas. Makes it MUCH more troublesome. I wonder if anyone else has noted any of these things?

As with my experiences, Crohnies tend to have more gas because that whole area is working triple OT with never a break. Lots of gas builds up. In the beginning I thought I was losing it because I had the worst gas discomfort pains ever. After a while and gasX I am learning to control it a lot more. I'm figuring the foods that cause lots and I document it. So at least next time i eat it or don't I know what to expect. It does get easier with time. The gas.... unfortunately never does.
