Well I have got a end ileostomy but the surgeon left most of my colon and said he can reverse it. But was just wondering what the surgery consist of some people told me it's not like a loop ileostomy reversal. He will have to cut me just like he did on the surgery when he created my stoma. And he can't go through my ostomy site. Just wondering if that's true. Also its a longer hospital stay?

I had a temp loop ileostomy when I had 22cm of my colon removed(splenic flexure). For the reversal the surgeon actually cut out what had been my loop ileostomy/stoma and stapled the ends of the small intestine together. I asked why he did it that way instead of just stitching up the loop ileostomy. He told me they get better results with "fresh" cut ends. He did go through my stoma site. I don't know why your surgeon can't-I would ask for specifics. He did enlarge the incision of the stoma site. Recovery wasn't bad. 3 days in hospital. I was only on opioid pain meds for the first 12 hours after surgery. After that just Tylenol. I'm feeling well now but still dealing with diarrhea when I don't get my probiotics. I got my reversal at about 11 weeks after first surgery. I'm glad I didn't wait longer-usually more difficult if reversal is done after 5 months. Difficult as in retraining the bowels and rectal muscles.

They said just to find my colon. And to reattach it. They said it's a lot for the surgeon to find the colon and reconnect everything. Since I'm fully disconnected

Hi i had a temp ileostomy for 11 mths . My surgeon took down the stoma . I had a very slight extension to my midline scar to gain entry to the bowel. My stoma site was left open and packed no stitches or staples. Had it re packed n dressed for a couple of months till it healed. Scars barely noticable on midline n stoma site scar pretty tidy looking to compared to some iv seen. Toilet issues of urgency lasted for a few months . I was pretty much back to normal within 6 months tho i can have the odd urgency moment now n then.
I hope all goes well for you. Best wishes đź’•

Hey i've always found that loop ileostomies are harder to manage as opposed to an end. Good luck with your end. You may adjust to loving it too.
