endocort drug-when and what does it do?

Hi. Is endocort a drug that replaces pred? Can it be used longterm? And is it used on its own? What are your thoughts on it alone and for crohns in terminal ilium without imuran? Thx

It's a steroid, but only affects the intestines, rather than systemically as pred does. Since it's a steroid, it's not advisable to use it long-term, but some do. It's typically used in the interim while waiting on another drug (like Imuran) to kick in.

exactly what steph says. My GI knows I don't tolerate pred so he used entocort. It is a steroid, just not systemic. It is a short term solution until long term meds can be on board. I took it about 3 months and started azathioprine towards the end of the taper. I reacted really well to it, and had hoped it would be long term, but alas it is only a short term drug.
