I am very very very fatigued now but that mIght be due to the stricture and lack of absorption. For those who were fatigued and had surgery how was your energy after you healed? Did you have less energy because you had less intestines or more because the diseased portion was cut out?

I had no energy for about 3 months after my surgery. But it was a major thing and my body just needed to adjust. I'm perfectly fine now :) Even with 1/3 less colon...

I had low B12 and get injections every month. Had iron checked and it was fine, I am also not bleeder. The body goes through alot after surgery but it slowly comes back, depends on your age and your fitness too.

I've had crohn for more than 20 years and two surgeries.
Be patient. Four months after surgery you will feel like a million bucks. :)

I had lots of energy pre-surgery, and now 8 days post bowel resection surgery I feel pretty darn energetic. Went on two, half-mile walks yesterday, and ran several errands with my mom. I didn't walk at my usual zippy pace, but normal walking pace.

I think a lot has to do with how sick you were before surgery. I wasn't sick at all, except for several nighttime bouts of blockage. During the day I always feel great. If you enter surgery drained of energy, it will take you much longer to recover. Take your time and be patient. Everyone heals at a different rate.

I have no colon now and 7 weeks post op and I feel like I have loads of energy. Just have to remember that if I do too much then I WILL get tired. Like I got stuck in some traffic on the way home from work and felt really tired once I got home. Felt like going for a run today!!

You're amazing!

I have no energy now pre-surgery so I feel it will only get worse. I'm not talking about the healing process post-op in more concerned with down the road.

Scl - I'm not really, but thank you!

Nogutsnoglory - why do you feel that will happen? Most fatigue comes from generally feeling unwell. Your body wants to conserve energy to fix itself. If you're having diseased areas removed then there's less fixing to do and so more energy. Plus the body adapts to adsorption issues unless too much bowel is removed. I think you may be surprised.

Misty thats true I hope you are right! I just figure that less intestine means less absorption of iron and b vitamins which play a big part in fighting fatigue.

well I would guess it would really depend on which part of your small intestine is being removed and how much of it. Less iron absorption can always be combated with iron infusions and vitamin b12 with injections.

I get b 12 too. Yes it helps. Also I now take a multi vitamin. Also for me personally I find that the more exercise I am able to get the more energy I feel at the end of the day. I have much more energy after surgery but it took quite a long time to get my energy back. Also keep in mind that depression can cause fatigue
