hi, I'm a young person will Crohn's disease and I was curious if I could drink alcohol while on entocort EC? I'm not a heavy drinker.... I go to a party every few weekends and only have a few beers, I was just curious if alcohol has any effect on the medication that I am on and if I should avoid drinking? I'm on it for a few more months and would like to be able to drink this summer without effecting my medication and health. thanks !

Im on entocort and have had a glass of wine once or twice with no issues, but often on medications warnings of alcohol are more to do with uncertainty, dose regulation and absorption rather than interaction. I cant think of any pharmaceutical reason an intestinal steroid would be prohibitive of drinking. I would say be careful because a lot of alcohol can upset your intestines and aggravate your crohns not because of the steroid. The disease is miserable enough, go join in and have a life!

I asked my GP as im also on entocort and she said the entocort would be ok but not to have more than one or two. But im not allowed any because of the tramadol. Your stomach might react with alcohol no matter what though..

If you know where your crohns is that is also helpful: alcohol is easily absorbed across the gut, even in the stomach itself, hence you feeling the effect within about 15 minutes. If your crohns is situated lower in the small intestine and you drink a more refined alcohol then likelihood is that it will never come in contact. Im not saying blast the straight vodka, but dont be scared of a couple of drinks.
