Hi,
I started my prescription of 3x 3mg entocort tablets a day (apparently i was meant to be on 6mg of budesonide but they didnt have it) and at first I felt better but now i'm getting blinding headaches and worse rectal bleeding than I've ever had, will it take a while to kick in? Should I tell my doctor?
I don't have a crohn's diagnosis as of yet, been diagnosed with ileitis and I am waiting to have an appointment with my consultant to talk about my results.

Entocort gave me chronic headaches too. My GI put me on 25 mg Amitriptyline and that stopped the headaches in their tracks, and other than that I had no side effects whatsoever from Entocort. The bleeding is worrisome though so I would definitely call your doctor! Is it bright red blood or dark/black blood?

bright red whereas before it was watery and mixed in, this time it was bright red and dripping in the bowel, sorry if TMI. There was no pain from my rectum but been having bad abdominal pain today. I may go to my doctor and ask about headache pain relief as its a really sharp pain and not fun at all!

As an alternative to prednisone, I have been on Entocort before and it did a good job for me with many fewer side effects that prednisone. I do remember that it took a while start working in a noticeable way for me - at least to the nearly instant "jolt" you get when you start a new dose of pred - but I would definitely encourage you to see your doctor if you are experiencing headaches and bleeding that has worsened.

Also, my understanding is that budesonide is often used for disease at the end of your small intestine, which I believe would include the ileum you mentioned. You might ask the doctor where your disease is located. I understand right bright red blood often indicates something closer to the "end," where blood from higher up in the GI tract is typically much darker, or even black and tar-like.

Good luck x0lou0x. I hope the doctor can get you settled - and quickly!

yeah i think i do need to ask the doctor where the problem is. the annoying thing is ive been having blood for nearly a year on and off but both times ive had a colonscopy ive had no blood in the weeks before it so nothing was found in my colon!

How long have you been on the entocort? I think you should definitely notify your doctor about the side effects and the bleeding.

You should definitely call your doctor. I used to be on Entocort but was able to wean off of it. Entocort should not cause rectal bleeding. Something else may be happening that is causing the bleeding and that is why you should get checked out.

I also have been feeling faint and getting chills while going to the loo recently which is majorly scaring me! and my right hand is constantly numb? I also fainted the other day before my mri after my prep of picolax.
i don't know if I am still dehydrated from the prep (i had to do 2 in a week) and thats why i keep getting faint and numb but i've been drinking so much water to compensate, any ideas?

This is most likely caused by your recent blood loss. Fainting/numbness is two quite obvious signs of this. You should check your blood levels (espec b12), my non professional guess is that they are getting pretty low! :shifty-t:

Btw. Im also on Entocourt and experience the same blood filled toilets as you do. Havent really given it any special thought, since my body is pretty much fucked, and has been since way before started Entocourt :) Aka. It might be the Entocort, as corticosteroids does inhibit the bodys ability to heal it self. But it might as well be Crohns making your life hard :(

All in all, Go See Your Doctor! Good luck:hang:
