My 23-year-old daughter was recently diagnosed with Crohn's disease. Her doctor mentioned putting her on a steroid. After researching, we found both Entocort and Prednisone, with decent reviews on both in the treatment of Crohn's. The upside for Entocort was that it has fewer side effects and does not cause hair loss. The downside is it is much more expensive. For those who have tried both, which do you prefer? We thank you for any and all input!

Hi, I have been on both numerous times, I find that Entocort works better for me with less side affects especially the weight gain. My disease is at the terminal Ileum which I also think I remember my GI saying it works better in that area.
Its also a good idea to take calcium tablets too..
Wishing your daughter all the best.

Spiceman, hers is in the same location as yours. It is good to know about the calcium also. Thank you!

Yeah I've been on both too and Pred saved my life, and I only use Entocort for minor flare ups.
I had to have the Pred tho, I was blocked and infected, so I wouldn't go back on it routinely unless I was knocking on Death's door!
My Crohn's is in the TI too, I believe Entocort would suit her best to begin with, it's good, non systemic, only goes to the TI not the whole system and side effects are minimal compared to Pred
good luck xxx

Thank you, Astra. that is good to know. The doctor prescribed her Prednisone. We'll see how it goes!

Aw Kem, fingers crossed it works it's magic on her and she avoids the knife!
Hope they've prescribed extra calcium?
Pred is a bone robber

He did tell her to take Caltrate while she is on the prednisone. Thank you for your kind words.

Prednisone is EVIL!! At least that's my opinion. I'm SO happy that I have the option be be on Entocort!! I'm not sure which would be worse - suffering with a flare up or being on prednisone. In my opinion Entocort is so much better! I honestly feel really lucky that it's an option!

I hope to God to never have to touch pred again. Years later my life is still damaged from it. Entocort is strong and I have had no side effects.
