Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum.. my doctor told me i "most likely" have crohns after a colonscopy and put me on entocort. (three 3 mg capsules a day) i've been on em for about 3 weeks. The bathroom issues are great! made a huge impact on that.. not so much about my mood though. Since I've been on em I'm constantly crying my doctor said I can decrease my dose. Should I? or bear through it till my body gets used to it? (i'm pretty underweight and I take medication for anxiety)

Thanks so much in advance!

I can tell you that I had issues with increased depression and anxiety after using Entocort (plus the Crohn's didn't respond well); however, upon switching doctors after moving back to Seattle, my current doc immediately decided to switch my medication.

Since you say that the Entocort is helping your symptoms though, I would follow your doctor's advice and just try to decrease the dosage. If that has no impact then consult him/her again about the matter.

I was on Entocort for about 4 months. My syptoms seemed to get better, but I too became more depressed and anxious. So I started seeing my therapist more and increased my meds for anxiety, which help with depression. Also, if your not sleeping well, you become incredibly depressed. I take something call amatriptaline for sleeping and it helps combat the depression as well. Im no longer on Entocort, but Im still experiencing depression and anxiety. I think everyone is different and what works for some doesnt work for all. You have to weigh the pros and cons and figure out whats more important. Im not totally sure the meds made me more depressed or anxious, but this disease rakes havic on our lives....and Im sure the disease is the cause of increase depression and anxiety. I wish you luck in your search to feel better

I've been on Entocort for 2 years now. I have to say that I do have my crying spouts too. Usually I attribute them to a slip of depression of some sort. Either that or it comes with the stress load of Crohn's. Who knows.

I'd say stick with it for a little bit longer just to be sure. Take a lower dose and monitor your moods closely. You should know if you overall feel better or worse. Good luck!
