Entocort Question

Hi everyone. I was just wondering if there is a generic form of Entocort? My Dr. put me on it and quite frankly I simply can't afford it, even with insurance.
My dosage is 3 pills a day.. (3mg). I got a quote from my insurance that this would run me roughly $335 a month.

Unfortunately no, there is no generic version of Entocort yet. I'm on it myself and I pay $75 per month with my insurance. I believe without insurance it can cost over $1000 per month - how the manufacturer expects anyone to be able to pay that, I'll never know!

You might want to check with your pharmacist or the drug manufacturer to see if there are any discounts or programs to help you with the cost of Entocort.

I pay $60 co pay a month and there are a couple dicount coupons available online. They dont save you too much but even a little helps. Talk to your DR and see if prednisone would help you and that might be a little cheaper for you, not promising but its worth a shot. Dont let it get you down. Good luck

Is it really that expensive? That is tough... Is that normal everywhere? In Norway its expensive as well, but the government pays it for us.

When I was on entocort (I don't have ins right now) I got it from the drug rep. She would leave me boxes of it. Kept me stocked up the whole time. I would ask my GI to see if they could help you out, even if it was just a little, that could save you some money.

Pop over to the uk and buy it on a private prescription and it costs significantly less than costs in north america. I think it is outrageous why it costs so much when the actual drug costs are much less (entocort = budesonide generically).
In the uk it is £76.50 per 100 pills raw cost.

I get my Entocort at Walgreens also and it's $75 per month for me. The cost depends on what your insurance pays for it. I usually pay $10 per month for generics, and my friend has better insurance than I do so she pays only $1 for generics! So it's just a matter of your insurance, not which pharmacy you go to.

I was paying 40.00 per month at CVS when I was on it. It would be a good idea to ask your dr if he ever gets samples of it from the rep.

I pay insurance every month for like $27 which covers most of the price of all my medications. I use the rectal version of Entocort, not the pills, which two boxes of seven cost around $18 dollars if I convert from huf. Sorry not much of help.

I didn't know entocort could be given rectally. im given the pills currently. I was on the hydrocortisone enemas is that different?

No, its pretty much the same I think, just its Entocort enemas called Entocort Klizma.

AstraZeneca is the drug company that make it and has a assistance program that you can apply for. My husband was just told yesterday that when he is discharged he is going to have to be on it and we do not have rx ins either. I printed out the form and faxed it to the hospital floor for the GI doc to fill out. If you are in the US go to the astrazeneca-us.com and you will see a banner that changes and have something about getting help affording your medicine. Hope this helps us both!!!

my doctor has me on BUDESONIDE, I dont know if this is a generic version or just another name for entocort, anyway just my 2 cents of info

Budesonide is the generic name of the drug. Entocort is the brand name. As far as I know, there is only Entocort on the market (i.e. there are no generic non-brand name versions). The retail cost of the drug is roughly $1,100 for 90 pills. Of course, if you have insurance, you will only pay a portion of that cost.

If you go to http://www.entocortec.com/patients/contact.aspx, there is contact information for the company that produces the drug. You can try calling them and asking if they have any assistance programs.

it is expensive well over the $1000 mark for 30 day supply; we pay $30 at Walmart w/insurance.
I wonder sometimes about the generic; my daughter had a reaction to the 6MP maintenance drug and I know it was the generic form. but I hate to try the name brand one b/c she got so sick from the 6MP.
Entocort seems to really work well for her and I understand its not as harmful as predisone can be.

My girlfriend just started taking Entercort. She has no insurance. The cost to her is $420 for 30 pills, which lasts her 10 days. So her cost is $1,260 a month.

I just went to the pharmacy and purchased a 10 day supply of 30 pills of Entocort and the cost was $422.16. I was told by my doctor that I am supposed to take this medication for the next three months? Yea right..... Which bank is going to loan me money to continue? I have already looked into Prometheus labs (no patient assistance programs), Astra Zeneca (not covering this medication at this time) and P.P.A.R.X (no programs available for this medication) the only option that I have left is to contact my doctor and to see what he can do for me. If he does not have any options (do not expect samples from your doctor as Prometheus labs already informed me that they are out of samples for the remainder of the year) they are going to have to change my treatment plan because I cannot afford Entocort. The cold reality is this seems to be happening to many people.

Interesting. I wonder how reliable the medication is? This is to say, could this generic be taken with confidence that it will provide the same therapy as entocort.

When I tried entocort I had Medicaid so I'm not sure what it would've ran through my insurance. I know my dr always has samples of stuff so maybe you could ask for some? Medicine sure gets expensive and im sure they could give you some options on how to find a way in getting it or maybe put you on something else if it would work for you.
