I just started Entocort and was wondering if you have to taper off of it. I am on 3 pills a day and they just said take for 8 weeks.

Also, the med info said to carry around a card saying you are on the medication??? How do I get that?

Im not on entocort but that sounds like my prednisone. prednisone ya have to taper off it and they should have given u a card with ya tablets. Id ring ur tablet lady up for one. cos u cant just come off them.

I have been on Entocort for about a year so I am not familiar with the tamper thing. I do know that I went to the oral surgeon for some dental issues and when he gave me the novicane my blood pressure sky rocketed and he would not do the proceuder unless he sedated me and spoke with me GI. Or he said I could get off the meds for a week then he could do it while I was awake. My GI said NNNNOOOO way so now any dental work I have to be sedated. I do not carry a card about it thought I just tell other drs I have to see all of the meds I am on. The oral surgeon said the reason for the blood pressure thing was definately due to the entoroct. I hope this help.

Teeny - I am on Entocort, too, and my GI said they normally taper it over about 3 months, but evidently it's not necessary to do it this long, because they are letting me taper off of it more quickly as I am hopefully getting ready to try LDN (can't be on steroids with that). I just tapered to to 2 pills (6 mg total) yesterday and will stay on that for 10 days, then will go to 1 pill (3 mg) for 10 days, then off.

teeny-I am also starting entocort 3 pills a day for 8 weeks, then 2 pills a day for 2 weeks, when I spoke with the Pharmacist today she said you DO need to taper the dosage with this drug. Please let me know how you find it, as well as anyone else who has experience with this drug, this will be my first treatment for Crohns.

I was on entocort for a while, but it didn't do much for me. Then again, I was only on it for less than a week or so and I ended up in the hospital for another blood transfusion where they took me off the entocort... Hope it works well for you, I hear it's pretty good with low chance of side effects.

I have been feeling great with the Entocort! Feel much more energetic and have my appetite back. Starting to gain weight back....sloooooooooowly.

Does anyone know if they would keep you on it for a long time? No one has talked to me about coming off of it...I feel great on it. Are there side affects from being on it for a long time like Prednisone? I don't see my GI again till Oct. 8th.

Well, my GI told me there's a much lower chance of side effects than say Prednisone because it doesn't travel through your bloodstream, but rather goes directly to your colon (if I understood that correctly). That didn't make much sense to me when he told me that...

Anyways, good to hear you found something that works for you. I'm still searching for something that works well for me...

I have not found a D drug that does not have bad side effects. I have been on Entocort for over a year and I do not think my GI is okanning on taking me off anytime soon.

Actually Entocort goes straight to your ileum. I am taking it now just because of that. (That's where my inflammation is)

We have to have a card saying that I'm on Entocort? No one has told me this...

I read it in the info packet that came with the medication. You can go to this website to print out a free card with your med info www.MedIDs.com

I asked my Dr. office about it and they said the pharmacy should have given me one with the meds. Printing my own was just easier than trying to get one from there.

So, the last 2 days I have felt kinda bad. Tummy hurting in the mornings especially and I haven't been sleeping good. What is up!

I hope this doesn't mean my Entocort is already starting to not work. Hope it is just a little flare.:(
